Deficiencies in certain vitamins is usually behind hair loss, aided and abetted by genetics. Look at your diet and how your body is coping with stress, especially physical stresses such as injury, pollution, etc.
Most shampoos are full of petrochemical derivatives (parabens etc) which can overload the body's detoxification systems, depleting nutrients -- especially those Bs that are needed for good hair -- and stressing the body. The extra money for safer brands from the health food store -- read the labels though to make sure -- is worth it from a health point of view.

I don't think so. As long as you use the right shampoo for your hair type. Actually it's good to wash your hair everyday, it keeps your hair light and fresh.
