Do NOT use OTC dewormers or flea products..they are ineffective and can cause very serious illness even death. The only appropriate dewormer to use is one prescribed by your vet for the type of worm(s) your dog has and also for the size of your dog. Puppies need to be dewormed at 2, 4, 6 & 8 weeks of age and then periodically after. Your vet is the best one to decide on an appropriate deworming schedual for your puppy from this age on.

Did the person you got the pup from worm her? This could be a reason for you seeing worms. If not, then the pup has a lot of worms. Roundworm is white and about 4 inches long. This is the most common worm in pups as is hookworm. You cannot see hookworm. Use an OTC med that will take care of roundworm and hookworm. A highly infected dog can take several treatments to get over. Also, make sure you pick up and bury all the stools. Worm eggs can get into your ground and the pup can become reinfected just from stepping in her own stool. Do keep your vet appt. and have a fecal done to see if you need to keep treating.

If you bought wormer like Pyrantel Pamoate, weigh her and give her the correct does for her weight. You will need to worm her again. Normally wormer will kill approx. 90% of worms, so you will need to worm again in about 1 to 2 weeks. When you take her to the vet, bring in a stool sample. When you worm a pup, you will normally see worms pooped out withing 24 to 36 hours of worming. If she has this many worms now, she needs to be wormed again. Then she should be wormed again about 4 to 6 weeks after the second worming.

If you gave the puppy dewormer, she should be good in 2-3 days. It is good that you are taking her to the vet. You may need to do a once-a-month heartworm pill that will help.

You should get her into the vet. Dewormer isn't too expensive. Glad you care though.
