Is there a trick to keep brushing a neat process? I have tried putting the toothpaste into a little container for them to dip their toothbrush in, but that hasn't worked.

Is there a brand of toothpaste that is friendlier to smaller children? I've tried all the usual kid stuff...colgate, crest, aquafresh, etc.

I do try to help them brush, but sometimes I can't. Any tips would be greatly appreciated...

Not really. My kids were messy as all get out. How old are they?

My older kids, ages six and up, I gave them three tries. If they made a mess three times with the toothpaste, they lost it for the rest of the week and had to use a cup of baking soda to brush. We have flouridated water and it wasn't a big deal that way. Baking soda is actually a main ingredient in toothpaste, but is sooo disgusting tasting that they learned very quickly to be careful. At the end of the week, they get the toothpaste back. And of course, they have to clean up the toothpaste that was the mess, that in and of itself was enough work to discourage them.

Under six I don't expect them to use it by themselves, my dentist said that they should still have an adult brushing for them all the time. They don't have the coordination or perseverence to do a good job.

Get the bubble gum flavor gel tooth and gum cleaner, (oral gel), it has a mess proof lid and also they have brushes that light up when used and stop after 60 seconds. They stop brushing when the light turns off. they are about 3$. It makes brushing fun. It takes thier mind off of brushing, its kinda like a game, you know lets see if you can do it until the light stops flashing! They are distracted and building good habits at the same time...before you know it the kids will be on a regular routine.
