I can't believe the money people pay for a mutt/mixed breed when they have plenty in the shelters waiting for a home. It's not like these breeders are doing it ethically anyway and bothering with health checks. And you sure can't get champion lines, becaue NO reputable breeder would ever mix breed.

Lets me see my "designer dog" came to me as a stray on the door step when I got home on a cold raining winter Feb. She was free and definately worth the adopting. She's a poodle mix. Now the way they market it nowdays as a hypo-allegnic dog is false. She doesn't shed as much as other dog, but she definately sheds and she has to go to the groomers every 3 months to get groomed. Oh she's definately not hypo-allengenic because I'm allergic to her fur when it grows out (and yes I don't believe in dumping a dog because I have allergies to her I just deal with it because she wants a loving home and I don't treat her mean because of it she loves my couch and my bed).
In the end it's a marketing ploy that people think that getting a dog mixed with poodle will make the dog more hypo-allegenic or because "Hollywood" makes the breeds look glamerous. I think if you really want a "desinger dog" you' can go to the shelter or adopt one or find a place where they don't charge high prices up to or more $1000 bucks.
Once I almost lucked into getting another designer dog because I really wanted a puppy but @ $800 dollars I wasn't that crazy instead I continued to find a puppy and found one that I adopted from a shelter for a lesser price and the money wasn't for profit but to take care of her medical needs.

Yep, amen to you!
Here is how the GSCA, GRCA, LRCA, and the AKC sum it up:
http://www.akc.org/breeds/mixed_breeds.cfm?SEARCH_BUTTON.X=11\&SEARCH_BUTTON.Y=15
http://www.giantschnauzerclubofamerica.com/Information/giant_schnoodles.htm
http://thelabradorclub.com/library/labradoodle.html
http://www.poodleclubofamerica.org/labradoodle.htm
http://www.grca.org/pec/goldendoodles.html
If you get a goldendoodle or anything doodle mixed with poodle, you better be sure the AKC DOES NOT support that breeder or hybrid dog!!
And if you are a breeder of these dogs, you can be sure that us in the rescue group world and those who DO breed purebred dogs responsibly, we are rolling our eyes at you in utter DISGUST!!
There is no need for doodles of any from. Yes, they started in Australia as the "ideal" guide dog. But even that organization has digressed saying they are NOT ideal guide dogs AT ALL!
They DO SHED. Do you hear me critics? THEY SHED!!!
Sorry, kinda rambling. Kinda mad. Nothing wrong with shelter mutts. But as long as there are wreckless breeders, the shelters will be full with loving dogs who ONLY want a good home, who never should have been bred in the first place.

I wish I could really answer that. I will never know why people do what they do. Like a click.... one does it they all have to do it. I have witness people paying up to 1,500.00 for a so called designer dogs ( mutt ) As long as there is a demand for them people will cross breed them. People don't care how it is hurting the dogs blood line. Let just say anyone can breed a designer dog. It takes brains to breed a good stock.

I`m with you, it`s stupid to pay so much for a dog that is bred just the way you want it. People who want a mutt should just go rescue one from the pound. We did, and she is the most loveing and loyal dog out there, but we also he a perbred poodle who cost about $2000.00 and he is just as loving and loyal as our other dog. But hey, I think it`s rediculous, but i guess some people just don`t know what to do with money.

They are all back yard breeders trying to make a few bucks. You can get the same exact mixed breed at a shelter for $150 rather than $1000 from a back yard breeder that has no idea what they're doing. I hate when they claim they are a breed, they are NOT! They are mutts that are not recognised at all.

If an individual wants one of these dogs based on the preferred characteristics of two combined breeds, then that may be the route to go. Otherwise, I agree, it's certainly a better choice to rescue a mutt who isn't in denial.

I paid $600 for my German Shepherd a few years ago. It's the most I'll pay for any dog. I wanted a GSD to protect the home and family while I'm away and he does his job quite well.
Paying good money for a type of dog just to have? Well, some people must have more money than me!

I think it's lame. Go to a shelter and save a dog. I think it's nice that people think these dogs are worth so much money. The term 'designer dog' sounds a lot friendlier then mutt or mongrel. Don't you think?

I think its terrible. There dogs, plain and simple. And yes i agree its a waste of money. Mixed breeds have better attitudes and they are smarter. They also have a longer life span to. These high dollar breeds stay sick and you spend more money on them at the vets, And that's after you pay all that money to purchase them. I say Mutts are a better option.
