Unions... Those thugs make american companies uncompetitive, because they have to spend more money on labor costs than other companies.

It really comes out to the way people treat there cars. Example, someone buys a Honda, American culture has programmed people to believe Honda is a great brand so they will service it religiously at the dealer no matter the cost because they know it will last. The same person buys a Ford truck, They think oh it's just a stupid American car so they don't change the oil or anything they just put in gas and drive it into the ground and then get upset when it breaks. I've worked in import dealerships and domestic dealerships. more times than not I see a lot of engine replacements in domestic dealerships because people just don't take care of their cars. I personally have a Chevy with 270 thousand miles and the original motor. my friend has one with 475 thousand on the original motor. Not to mention the only all American motor company left is Harley, Ford is mostly European, Chevy is mostly Korean, and Japanese, and Chrysler is German.

Why did I have to use my 1990 4x4 dodge w/200k miles and trailer to haul a 94 Honda civic home to yank and repair the bottom end of engine? It had only 115k for miles. My american vehicles have always gotten the job done. For what it's worth, the honda had rust holes in the body, the dodge did not.

at one point, they did make great cars, back in the muscle car era.......... but then around the '70's they started getting a bit big headed, thinking they were the best, and fell behind........ not helped by the fact the workers quit taking pride in their work, doing things like leaving beer cans in door panels & tuna sandwiches under the seats.

I think it's japan that are the great copiers, and I'll put a Corvette or "Ford GT" up against any of them, the Ford GT was made to blow Mercedes, and everyone else completely off the race circuit

Another stupid person. I have a 1979 Mustang with the original motor in with well over 200,000 miles on it and it's still going strong. Can you say that about your rice. If you want a good car and for it to smoke any crappy import, get a Saleen S7! It's the fastest production car in the world.

I have never had any major issues with American made cars. I've owned GM, Chrysler , and Ford. They are all good cars. Most American companies outsource some of their components to other countries.

We can and do. BMWs and Toyotas are made right here in the states with American workers. I think the better question would be is why Ford and GM have fallen so far behind. #1 answer to that would have to be greedy capitalist scumbags.

The thorn in the side of American auto manufacturers is that their socialistic mechanisms (i.e. healthcare and pensions) have gotten so big that they are literally snuffing out the companies. Japanese auto manufacturers don't have to deal with these headaches.

Socialism kills. It sounds great on paper, but it kills.
