I want to edit a video from a camcorder into a slide show Im doing.

Yes, yes, yes. How many times does this question have to be asked (as I asked yesterday!) Get an analogue to digital converter, like Pinnacle's Dazzle Fusion. I can't be bothered to look up the website and quote it again.

On my computer I would hook the av composite cable (yellow, white, red) on my ATI 9600 AIW to the corresponding ports on the cacorder (or s-video or whatever better option existed). Then i would set up my ATI TV software or Virtual Dub for a capture. After that I would encode (compress) the video to an avi. Then take frames out of the video you wanted to have as pictures in the slideshow. I would use Paint Shop Pro for this.

Though I've never done the above for slideshows I have done it to make my own .avi videos from VHS where I had a VCR rather than a camcorder. Most any kind of capture card can be used in place of the ATI card I use.
