"An animal experiment cannot be justifiable unless the experiment is so important that the use of a brain-damaged human would be justifiable."
-Peter Singer, Animal Liberation: A New Ethic for Our Treatment of Animals, 2nd. edition, 1990
This statement was made, I'm sure, with the thought they do not do experiment on humans. I know this is not true. Here is a story about a baby born in 1966. She had a heart defect that up to this time all childern died from. Her doctor experiment on her. Tried for 5 years to help her she went through hell. But she made it. her going through that hell made it possable for many to live. The work they did on her lead to them be able to replace values in the human heart. This child gre up and had childern and died this year, her doctor said her death had a lot to do with what she went through. I'm alive because of her, I had to have a value replaced in my heart.

The sad thing about this story is she was my baby sister, I out lived her becasue of her bravery. So it gets me when these people say the world would be better off with out humans on it.
These are not just a few people and they are in control of these groups and they think we should as a race be gone.
If you haven't given voluntary human extinction much thought before, the idea of a world with no people in it may seemstrange. But, if you give it a chance, I think you might agree that the extinction of Homo sapiens would mean survival for millions, if not billions, of Earth-dwelling species ... Phasing out the human race will solve every problem on earth, social and environmental."
--"Les U. Knight" (pseudonum), "Voluntary Human
Extinction," Wild Earth, Vol. 1, No. 2, (Summer 1991), p. 72.
These are evil people and stop listening to them they lie to to the public and most do not have the good sence to see them for what they are.

Yes, and these very same people, who rail against animals in research, have no problem benefitting from the resulting technology.
Vaughn - "PETA and the Human Society (which really are two very different groups)
No, not so different at all. They swap employees back and forth all the time. There no more pets agenda is the same, for them and ALL the other AR groups as well.
"PETA and the Humane Society are particularly visible as defenders of animals"
DEFENDERS??? LOL!!! Their goal is to END ALL PET OWNERSHIP! They are ASSAULTING our animals, NOT defending! PeTA kills %90 of the animals they get/steal, and hSUS works at passing laws making ownership of animals harder and harder!
You need to educate yourself about the true nature of these groups. If you love animals they are not your friends!
Iloveeyore - hSUS and the other animal rights groups are NOT animal welfare, they are animal rights and there is a huge difference between the two! Animal welfare (like NAIA) is for good animal care/husbandry. Animal rights is for the removal of all animals from our pastures and couchs!

You know, both of these organizations would have a much better rep, should they not have been so fanatical. Tyke was right in calling some of these people humaniacs, that is what they are. I believe that cruelty to animals in abhorrent and no one has the right to torture anyone. BUT, a dog is a dog and while it should never be strapped to a machine and have the top of its head cut off so we can see how it works, while it is still alive, it is still a dog and must be treated as such. Meaning, it will get corrected when it needs to and the level of correction will be sufficient to match his temperament and or offense. It will not be made to wear clothes simply because WE think it looks cute and WE want to feel good about it. It will not sleep on our beds and our living room couch and it will not be treated as a human. It does not have the same human emotions that we have, nor does it wanted them. The reasons why WE treat our dogs like humans is to make US feel good, without EVER asking the dog if it likes it or even consider how much OUR behavior is screwing up theirs. And finally, people have to realize that not all dogs are cute and cuddly and should never be treated harshly, some dogs require corrections that would leave many people here gasp, but those dogs are the same ones that some of us need or choose to have. HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

People give money to PETA and the Human Society (which really are two very different groups) because they very much love animals and very much want to help them. PETA and the Humane Society are particularly visible as defenders of animals (no matter what you think of their tactics) and thus get both attention and donations.
While I'm glad to know of your successful heart surgery, I'm not sure the story you made is an apt analogy to animal testing. You state that the doctor "tried for five years to help" the girl in question, which tells me he wasn't just experimenting, but learning from his attempts at treatment, which are two very definite things. Generally, testing on human subjects is considered abhorrent (whether it has actually happened or not). Groups like PETA are just trying to make the argument (and it is definitely arguable) that testing on animals is also abhorrent.
For what it's worth, I used to belong to PETA but quit because, for me personally, their press seemed a little too extremist. But that said, I can understand how many people believe that they must be extreme in order to counter what they see as an extreme injustice being done. We all just draw our lines in different places.

Our friend Pam was born with a birth defect and I think all the multiple operations taught the doctors a lot.She passed away at age 31, 2 months ago. I think her little heart just gave up. PETA thinks they are helping but they are not they are very anti human.
Crackpot organizations used to be ignored by the media now they are constantly in the news which apparently for the majority vilifies their righteousness. bleh!

Uh, your post made no sense, but I like animal welfare organizations, and I feel they are trying to do a good thing: change a culture of violence against animals. Do I agree with every single thing they do? No.....I don't agree 100% with any organization or group. For the most part, though, I appreciate them, especially the HSUS and ASPCA.
