I don't think religion has any place in the classroom, and I think most western religions breed intolerance. I'm also concerned about how superstition leads to crazy witchunts. Is it time to neutralise all religious references in the classroom to prevent ignorance and disinformation?

I agree. i think that children shoul have the right to have a brainwash free zone, when they go to school.

The education system uses schools as a tool to make children think believe in christianity, these kids are not told that it is a belief, they are taught it as if it is fact.

This is not education.

Christians believe in education.
Actually we believe in a better quality of education than we have today.
We have too many high school graduates that can't even fill out an employment form correctly, and cannot address an envelope well enough for it to get to the intended person.
To me THAT IS A SHAME, and should never happen.

There is no reason why people who have spent 12 years in schools has to have a remedial course to enter college.
In the days of our founding fathers a child had to be able to read and write before he could enter the first grade.

Christians started all of our great universities like Harvard and Yale which are not as great as they once were.

I say lets all go back to the caves and worship fire and the sun. Trouble is, there are more religious nutcases than there are sane secularists. But I agree that the public schools are no place to religion to be taught. It's interesting that in many places the Mormon faith has enough clout that they have LDS "seminaries" built right next to public high schools. That is absolute BS. If Muslims tried to build right next to a public high school, they'd have to call out the ACLU and the National Guard.

I do not know what country you are from, I am from The United States, Starting back in the 1970's One atheists took prayer out of the school, I graduated in 1968, when I was in school, we were allow to pray & salute the flag, & we were given a new bible from the gideons every year. I could not wait until the next school year so I could get another new Bible, Now in America, there is a few schools now that requires a class on teaching Islamic faith, This is a violation of my Christian beliefs, It is true, it is not country wide, & at only a few schools, But only time will tell, So if they took Christian morals out of school & now slowly trying to place in it's place Islamic beliefs, I have always said If something is taken out that leaves a vaccum, & something will have to fill that vaccum, & now satan has moved into our schools, Back in the 1950's & 1960's when I was in school, we NEVER heard of anything about shootings, Now to finish answering your question, We have kids from our church that has been faced with the seperation of Church & state, But none of them have rejected their faith, They plainly let the school know they will dress like a Christian & live like a Christian, & not deny their God & Faith, Many that can now, even home-school their kids. Now concerning college, If you go to colleage, study something that you will be using in your lifetime, It is nonsence to study how to fly an airplane if you are going to be a doctor. Now I know many will thumbs down me, that is alright with me, I came through all these changes throughout the years.

Since the bible was taken out of the classroom, moral decay has been racing downhill. Parents don't give moral direction, leaving it up to the schools, which have been stripped of tools to do the job unconsciously expected of them by parents that say, "I pay taxes for my children to be taught, it's the school's fault, throw some more money at the problem-the state's money, not mine!"
In the 50,s, problems in school were mainly chewing gum, and talking in line, that sort of thing. Today, it's babies having babies, drug abuse, and guns to name just a few.

Education should include every aspect of life and that includes people's beliefs.

As to preventing ignorance and disinformation I'm afraid you would have to totally dismantle the entire educational system as that is it's sole purpose.

Remember, the more uneducated and misinformed the masses are, the easier they are to control by those in power.

this is America. religious schools teach their religion so that they continue membership.
Now, public schools do not allow religion classes. Heck, the school in Rossford Ohio forbid a christian band from playing at the school. won the case in court
the more you learn; the more you know; without education, people are living in the caves. I see it everyday, kids have greater opportunity today, but choose to idle through school and become bullies and thieves.

Religious people were the most educated in times past. They studied the Bible, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, when few other people even knew how to read. Most universities today were started by some religion.

This is taken out from "Islam: A Global Civilization", prepared by Islamic Affairs Department, The Embassy of Saudi Arabia, Washington, D.C.

"Islam is a religion based upon knowledge for it is ultimately knowledge of the Oneness of God combined with faith and total commitment to Him that saves man. The text of the Quran is replete with verses inviting man to use his intellect, to ponder, to think and to know, for the goal of human life is to discover the Truth which is none other than worshipping God in His Oneness. The Hadith literature is also full of references to the importance of knowledge. Such sayings of the Prophet as "Seek knowledge even in China", "Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave", and "Verily the men of knowledge are the inheritors of the prophets", have echoed throughout the history of Islam and incited Muslims to seek knowledge wherever it might be found. During most of its history, Islamic civilization has been witness to a veritable celebration of knowledge. That is why every traditional Islamic city possessed public and private libraries and some cities like Cordoba and Baghdad boasted of libraries with over 400,000 books. Such cities also had bookstores, some of which sold a large number of titles. That is also why the scholar has always been held in the highest esteem in Islamic society."

As a Muslim, I agree with education. In Islam, Muslims are commanded to pursue education. After the spread of Islam, Muslims were more advanced in science and technology than their European counterparts. Cities such as Baghdad, Basrah, and Cordova had libraries and universities during the Islamic Golden Age. Greek philosophy were revived by the Muslims.
