as that's an iPod mini I prusume it particularly is the pensioner of the iPods (or a minimum of a midle elderly grumpy iPod), so, it decide on a hip replacment (you opt on a sparkling battery). you may get one from right here... And wait, iPod's are no longer something yet crap..

Figure out if it's maybe a problem with the charger and not the ipod, if it's the ipod contact the apple corperation and they'll be able to fix it for you.

Charged overnight too much. Happens to cell phones, too. It happened to my iPod mini.
