No one can be clever without being good at his language. You know what to do about it.
No one may go to school the rest of his life. He must know how to go on learning things on his own. Whatever you are studying for a living or pleasure, you need to learn also about "how to learn."
We may learn things through reading, being taught, observing, experiencing, and searching.
Reading books, you find the words well selected but the books cannot answer your question.
Being taught, you may find the words explained not as good as those written in the book but your teacher can answer your question.
Observing something, you may see it from many angles but do not have a real touch of it.
Experiencing something, you are touching it but too close to it that you may not see the whole picture.
The more you search to know something, you'll know more and more how to do it, about when you need to read about it, a teacher to consult, to observe it in the real world, or to experience it.
What I said above are only a few things among what you need to seek to learn the rest of your live. Whatever and however you do, if you don't stop doing it, you'll get better and better to know how to learn your way to be clever evermore.

I agree with silver birch's answer ,if u are a student, u have to keep up with class , study hard not miss out any home work , try to concentrate on the subject , understand it well , ask for clarification incase u do not understand ,,, and believe me being clever is not a hard thing to do, i think its a matter of practicing , and once u believe u r clever or can be, then u will ... dont know if i expressed it right , sorry for my poor English as its not my mother tongue ... best of luck

No secret.

Read and understand.
Read around the subject.
Know the theory, not just the practise.
Ask questions if you don't understand.
Keep asking until you do.
