I'm in California and I'm looking to get a new car soon. Once I get the car I'd like to put a custom plate on there, but a plate that is registered to my car and name. I know that I have to order the plate from the DMV website and they will deliver it to a local DMV.

But I'd like to know what to do after I pick up the plate, what if I already have a plate on my car? How do I go about doing this?

It's been a while since I was in California, but you order the vanity plate, they check, and if it's available they send it to the DMV. When you pick up the new plate, you turn in your old plate is the way it was.

A screwdriver for starters.

Register your vehicle with the new plates, take the old ones off and put the new ones on. You may or may not have to return the old ones.

conceitedness plates. It ought to not be some thing obscene, and ought to not be some thing some different person already has. in many circumstances you're allowed 6 or 7 letters/numbers. the fee is determined with the help of the legislature of the particular state.

the safest thing you can do is turn over your plates to the dmv. if someone were to get your plates and put them on their car and commit a crime it would trace back to you.

Remove the old tags and install the new ones. Nothing hard about that!

I agree with Bostonian. You don't have to turn in your old tags, but just make sure no one can get to them!!
