In my experience, there very few disadvantages related to going to college. Taking out loans to pay for your education and not having much money to live on, while in school are the only potential disadvantages for some. I think that both of those things are worth it since the benefits of going to college are unlimited.

Try this: Graduate from high school, find a job that pays enough for your to have food and shelter. If you don't like it, find another one. After a while, you'll probably end up in a job/field that you enjoy. *Now pay attention: DO NOT rack up tons of debt while you are working!! This way, once you've found a job/field/professon you enjoy, you can decide if going to college will improve your opportunities/potential promotions/etc. in the field you're interested in.

This way, you get work experience that will allow you to find a field you'd like to work in, you haven't accumulated much debt so if you'd like, you can quit your job and still go to college and you won't be wasting your time there since you didn't go until you knew what you wanted to do.

Finally, some cautionary advice: You may end up LOVING school. I worked for 10 years in accounting and decided to quit my well paying job to get an accounting degree so I could get promoted into management. After a few years of school, I changed my major a few times, ended up in Sociology and am applying to PhD programs. 4 years of school turned into 10! Don't underestimate the power of a college education. :o)

some of the advantages are:

You usually get to start out higher on the employment ladder, and will qualify for more jobs. Also, statistically, people with college educations make more money in their lifetimes.

People with higher education usually have higher social status in this country.

It is a good time to explore your interests and abilities and to broaden your mind - makes it more interesting to be inside your own brain for the rest of your life.

It allows you more time to transition from teen to adult, and to explore your identity and social relationships before you are thrust into "real" adult life.

It can be alot of fun. You are with people your own age, and all of you now have much more freedom.

You can be exposed to awesome thinking.

It gives you chances to explore really interesting extra-curricular interests such as sports, studying abroad, etc.

You have access to resources and people that you otherwise would not have.

It is easier to get an education before you take on full adult responsibilities such as marriage and parenting.

It is way better than high school.

Disadvantages:

It is hard work.

It takes alot of time.

It sometimes does not lead to meaningful employment

It can keep you dependent upon parents longer

It can be lonely sometimes

It requires self-initiative

It can be expensive and create debt while starting out

going to college right after high school: sacrifice then pleasure
not going to college: please then sacrifice

see, if u're going to college, you can have a great life after that, you won't have that much fun while in college but you'll have after it.... just think of it... but it doesn't mean that if u go to college you can guarantee that you'll have a great life after that, it depends....

if you're not going to college, well you'll have fun but not for long, you can't do some things a college graduate can do.... but it doesn't mean that if u didn't go to college you can't be successful..... nothings impossible in this world
