The greeks had many different words for love and there are different kinds.
Love is an emotion, love is a choice, love is a commitment, love is unconditional.
It is difficult in male-female relationships to distinguish between love and lust, sometimes.
I think the purest love is the altruistic love of a parent for a child.
Not all parents do love their children unconditionally but most do, and give without thought of reward, forgive always, notice the good and best in their children and dont focus on any bad points.
It is hard to love anyone like that but after the initial attraction and overwhelming feelings you can choose to keep on loving someone. That is what happens in a good marriage. People dont always 'feel' in love but they choose to behave in a way that says 'I love you' to the other person.

Love is an emotion. There are different types of love. Love for parents, love for children, love for friends, love for possessions, love for animals, love for plants etc., etc., Not forgetting the God given love for that one single person of the opposite sex or same sex as the case may be, what we like to call ‘True Love.’ This is an emotion that surpasses the ability of human description.
