1) Women cannot be sent to combat, but nothing says they can't be sent to dangerous areas. Remember Private Jessica Lynch? She was supposedly in a relative safe position: supply / logistics company. Basically, they go where the units goes.

2) That sounds like bull to me, at least the "dnagerous places" part. You will be sent to whereever you're needed. Arabic speakers, on the other hand, are needed in two places: intelligence, and liaison. Both are front-line duties unless you're higher-ranked. Intel may be a bit to the rear.

As for the bonus, I'm sure he gets a bonus for finding an Arabic speaker, I don't know about the recruit.

1) You get sent to where you are needed because of your MOS (Military Occupational Specialty), not by gender. You can pretty much be sent anywhere anyway, it just depends on what job you have. If you are an MP(Military Police), you'll probably be sent out to do patrols and to visit local police stations (like they do in Iraq). If you have a job like supply clerk or admin(paper pusher), you'll be more likely to stay back on base where very little if nothing happens. Just remember, you'll be a soldier above anything else, so be prepared for anything.
2) You may get a bonus for linguist skills, but 10k? Doubt it. Don't always believe what they recruiters say. This isn't meant to deter you from serving, just be aware and make sure you see it in writing!!!!!!!!

Unless it is in write no.
You may not be sent in to combat, but you could be near the combat zone. Many women who not in combat have been kill.
If you have arabic skill go work for the government.. You will get more money and be able to go home at night.
And as for the 10k bonus, they will take half for taxes and give you the rest on you aninversary date. So when you sign the contract you will get about 1k up front and 1 keach year for the next 4..
Make them sure you the money before you sign or you may not get it. I have seen this happen while I served.

The military will send you where they please - regardless of what the recuiter may tell you.

Where you are sent depends on your MOS (military occupational specialty) - aka your job. All this (MOS and station) depends on how you score on a series of tests that they give you as you enter the military.
One is a "geographic preference" test that determines what part of the world they send you. Most of the time, language skill had litlle to do with it.

If you have Arabic language skill, try to get a job with the CIA or s a civian with the DIS. Unless you are actually arabic, in which case you may be considered a security risk (ironic, stupid, but unfortunatly true)

The military is a noble profession. HOWEVER... the recruiters job is to sell you the sun, moon, and stars. They have a quota to meet, and if they do not meet them, they get bounced from their job and go out into the field. You being a woman does not mean they won't send you to Iraq. Because you speak Arabic, they probably WILL send you to areas that aren't safe. Unless they send you to Kuwait. He probably is not lying about the extra money. Arabic is a valuable language and your knowledge will earn you extra money. Remember, this is the army. Their job is to win battles and fight to protect Americas interest. Not exactly the safest profession. Honestly, you might think about going to college and then trying to join the CIA or FBI.... they need Arabic translators desperately.

Yes they do get sent to dangerous places and yes he's lying to tell you that as an Arabic Linguist you wouldn't get sent. Yes there are other places you could go (translating in an office on another continent), but Baghdad is still one of the options.

If a recruiter promises you something, get it in writing with an official signature. Also, if they promise you training in writing for a certain type of job they will do it, but that doesn't mean that they can't train you again for another type of work. I am not against the armed forces and I take my hat off to the men and women who serve. Even so, you are dealing with people and need to look out for your own interests.

If a woman in the Army deploys she will be in a warzone. But only men are allowed to be infantry front line which is the actual combat zone. It doesn't mean she will be completely out of harms way, noone can gaurantee that in a war. But they'll try. PFC Lynch was captured, never forget about her.

#1. In my experience, they are actually less likely to see combat tours than male soldiers, since the majority of units that are sent to combat are mostly male.

#2. Your recruiter cannot guarantee ANYTHING. Once you're in the Army, you can be sent anywhere, since it could be 'In the best interests of the Army'.

Don't let me scare you, but I was in the Army for 8 years and there is nothing guaranteed.

the only "promise" that you can somewhat depend on is what is written on your enlistment contract. just like any contract, don't sign if you don't like what it says. as for "sent to dangerous places".... it's the army! you go where you're told to go.
