is there a program i can download from the net that will do the job of microsoft word?

OpenOffice. It is a suite of programs that is free to download. It can open and save in the .doc format and many others..

Its a great alternative :)

Microsoft Works or Jarte are the best options. Jarte is a fully functional word-processor just like Word but better.
Microsoft Works can not be downloaded however. go to works.com and request a CD of works

Open Office, without a doubt. The Writer program in the suite is virutally identical, and if necessary you can save your files in an MS format. And it's FREE!

Open office is probably the best one. It also has alternatives to powerpoint and excel.

Failinf that take a look at download.com. you may be able to find something there for free.

open office org 2.1.download at cnet.com.i lost word off my pc,i'm glad i did this is much better and free
