I have no idea what gammon is but for a ham just glaze it, add a little water and put it in a low oven till it is done.

No you shouldn't boil the ham, you should bake it and bake it slow so that the heat penetrates to the bone. I place parchment paper over my ham then aluminum over that and depending on the weight of the ham I may bake it for 2 to 3 hours.
Me personally? I do not like glaze on ham. It is too sweet and I want to taste the smoked flavor of the meat. If you must use a glaze, put it on after it's baked.

Well, I asked my boyfriend, who is a fantastic cook, and he says do boil it. Boil it until it's 1/2 to 3/4 of the way cooked. If you don't like it salty, keep emptying the water (before it has a chance to boil) and refill with cold water. Score little tiny slices with a knife and glaze (he does with honey & mustard) then finish it off in the oven. This way you can be GuarenteeD that it is cooked thoroughly. Cook in the oven on a medium setting (about 180 or gas mark 4) Let it cook slowly to allow the glaze to soak/melt in. I swear it's delicious and I didn't think I'd like it coz I don't like mustard. Enjoy!

Absolutely not!! If the ham is smoked, it is already cooked.....Just put in baking pan ( I do use a rack in mine to put the ham on ) & cover with your favorite glaze.....I use coca-cola, dark brown sugar & pinapple chunks in sauce......Mmmmm
