Um, ok, lets back up the band wagon. Do you want a REAL answer from a real mormon? The prophet cant deny anything that the church teaches, and didnt, for one. Yes, we teach that man can in the eternities become a god. At this time, the time of the Earth, there is one God. We believe that God, His litteral begotten son Jesus, and the Holy Ghost are three SEPARATE beings. We also believe that God has a body. His body however, is already perfect, like ours will be when we are ressurected. He cannot die. He is eternal. So is Jesus, because he has also been ressurected.
Now. We believe that after the second coming, those who have already accepted the gospel AND stayed worthy, will go to spirit paradise, and those who have not been taught, will go to spirit prision. Its not really a prison, it is just a word to describe the state of the spirit, untaught, nieve, unknowing. And they will be taught there and can accept the gospel or not.
After the millenium, (period of time Christ will dwell on Earth with us to teach and rule, while Satan is bound) We will all be judged according to our works, and our hearts, and our faith. (James 2:17-18, King James Version bible) Then we will be sent according to our hearts and works, to either the Celestial Glory, the top glory for the most faithful, the Terrestial Glory, and then the telestial glory. We believe only those who have been baptised, and gone through the temple will get the chance to progress in the eternities. Meaning, those in the highest of the celestial kingdom.
Now, we believe that everyone who has ever lived, will get a chance to learn the gospel, and have their temple ordinances done. No one is left out. It is our choice. We choose our salvation. The children under 8 that have died we believe are saved in innocence, and have NO need to repent. We dont baptise our children until they are at least 8 years old. They choose. If you want more details, you can go to lds.org, mormon.org.

It would appear to me that this is the very same thing that got satan kicked out of heaven. He declared that he (satan) would be like the most high. (Isaiah 14:12-17)
Jesus always had been able to sit on the throne. He is actually GOD who became flesh to live among us and then to pay for our sin. He is NOT satan's brother, He is NOT a created being. He has always existed.
Also, if I remember right, only men can become a god...women can only become the wife of a god. Is this fair to women? I also seem to remember that in order to become a god, men had to have several wives (nothing about women having more then one husband) Yet they set this aside way to easy if they felt that GOD said to do this simply because a government said it was against the law. Many Christians willing went to their deaths rather then to disobey GOD.

It's too bad that the LDS church is moving away from this doctrine. This is one of the more distinctive and redeeming renderings of Jehovah that I've ever come across. If you're interested in learning more about the foundations of this doctrine, I suggest looking up the King Follett discourse, the works of Brigham Young, and the teachings of James Talmage.
"We believe in a God who is Himself progressive, whose majesty is intelligence; whose perfection consists in eternal advancement -- a Being who has attained His exalted state by a path which now His children are permitted to follow, whose glory it is their heritage to share. In spite of the opposition of the sects, in the face of direct charges of blasphemy, the Church proclaims the eternal truth: 'As man is, God once was; as God is, man may be.'" - James E. Talmage

there is a quote in Mormonism which says
as man is god once was, as god is, man may become.
i think it was Brigham Young who began that teaching. however, the church is starting to back away from that teaching to try and become more mainstream christian and attract more converts. Gorden B. Hinkley recently denied the church teaches it on Larry King.

No man or woman will become a "god". The bible clearly states that there is only ONE God and that is the God of the bible.
"You shall have no other gods before me."
Exodus 20:3
Mormons believe that non-mormons will still go to heaven. So what is the point of being a mormon?

No, because mormons base their doctrines from the book made by Josept Smith. Joseph Smith is Anti Christ according to the bible. His doctrines is different from the doctrine of Jesus Christ.
