That is old testament stuff. It is part of the Bible--just like it is part of the heritage of Islam.
The essence of Christianity are the teachings contained in the four gospels. And the primary ethical/moral teaching is contained in the Sermon on the Mount.
I am not saying that Christians always act peacefully or that they have always acted in peace in the name of their religion. But at the heart of the religion is a primary teaching on Peace. And that is why Jesus was called the Prince of Peace.
Remember he made a new covenant with people. It was not the same covenant that the Jewish people had forged and is the basis of the material in the Old Testament.
On your example of Samaria. Note how Jesus treated the Samaritans (who were considred second class citizens by the Jews)--he was nice to them--ate with them--all things which were prohibited by not only Jewish custom--but the law in effect at the time. And in the gospels he is criticized my many for doing this.

Is that old or new testament? The old testament is jam-packed with violence. Violence by yahweh, violence by non-believers, retribution sanctioned by yahweh to said non-believers, etc. If it is the new testament, it is much less violent, and tends to promote violence by saying convincing people that everyone that doesnt agree thwarts gods will in some way.
Whether or not the bible SAYS ANYTHING about acting peaceful, it is clear that the all the followers of the old testament (i.e. christians, muslims, and jews) were extremely violent people, and still are today. Most would consider America christian nation, and the amount of people it has killed even in just the past year is atrocious. The israel and the islamic countries are no better.

Hosea 13:16 in in the Old Testament and described in somewhat vivid terms the judgement to be receievd by those who rebelled against God under a system of law which they can never succeed in obeying. Those in the Old Testament who tried to please and obey God based on their own efforts to achieve their own righteousness by obeying the law will inevitably end up rebelling against God and suffering His judgements. This is why Jesus has to die on the cross to fulfil or obey the law on our behalf. Christians who now live in the grace of God's gift of righteousness are fully redeemed from the curse of the law and from God's judgement of all their sins. Hosea 13:16 is history and obsolete for Christians who have Jesus as their Savior. Christians have peace becuase their Prince of Peace, Jesus, has come. The children of Israel have no peace because they do not have or believe in Jesus even up to now. The coming of Jesus begins a new chapter for God's dealings with mankind for we now have peace with God through Jesus Christ (Rom 5:5)

Hi Aroosa,
Christianity is definitly a religion of peace, becoz the word, Christians means nothing other than Christ followers. ie; people who follows the teachings of Christ , and the teachings of Christ was nothing other than to love one another. Christ stood for love and peace, showing the most exemplary, model when He healed the ears of the solidier who came to crucify him, and said to peter that those who take up the sword would eventually perish by it . Jesus came to renew every laws in the old Testament. When in the old testament it was said "An eye for an eye and ear for an ear, Christ modified it by saying that "Love and Pray even for those who percecute you". Being Christ followers Christians are expected to act in the same way.
Old Testament was the Book written for the Jews by the Jews. Becoz Jesus was a Jew, the followers of Christ naturally included it along with the teachings of Christ. But Jesus makes it clear that He came inorder to modify the old laws and to establish a kingdom of God operating in the new rule of love..
Merry Christmas!

Maybe you need to rephrase your question. Hosea is one of the Old Testament books. We learn how to be a Christian from the New Testament, and the Holy Spirit.
You want find where our Lord Jesus Christ ever told anyone to commit violence in His name. As CHRISTians, we are followers of Christ!
I hope you can understand!
Merry Christmas!

Christians claim to follow the teachings of jesus christ, in the new testament, It's only the fundies who use the old testament as an excuse for their own hatred and intolerance. Just the same as fundies everywhere. They are very selective about which passages they use.

The "God" of Abraham is one of the Sword (Meaning, he seems to like death and destruction a little too much)
But, Ahura Mazda (The True God, the one of Zoroastrianism) is not just a God but also a friend, he is Kind, and not destructive.
Ahura Mazda had a choice between Good or Evil in the Beginning of time, He CHOSE to be good, and he is, He is the Good God.
He Created everything Good. But the God of Evil (Angra Mainyu) who CHOSE to be Evil, Counter created everything, he Created everything Bad.
When Mazda created humans Mainyu created Disease :( that is why their is evil in this world.

It must first establish peace before it can maintain peace. Do you not know about our Revolutionary War.
How did you become a citizen without studying the History and Government of the United States?
Stop your relatives from being terrorist. You are your brother's keeper.
