Aww shucks, cute pic, Susan, hun.

Of course it's alright to have a Buddha statue!

Catholicism doesn't stop you from collecting objets d'art!?

It only requires that you don't pray to it.

Merry Christmas!!!!!

Will displaying make you change your religious beliefs? If not display it it's not what you hang or have around it's what's in your heart. Your not going to be damned for having a buddha in your home, it's a statue and anyone who tells you different is crazy. I have catholic praying candles in my home, I'm not catholic but I like the way they look. I grew up methodist but I don't disown other religions I like different things in each religion. Like I said it's what's in your heart that matters.

I had the same kind of question (for myself) years ago when I first moved to Japan. At that time, I was a born again Christian, and I felt apprehensive about going to Shinto Shrines or Buddhist Temples. After awhile, however, I realized that most of the temples and shrines appeared to be dead and that there was nothing for me to feel apprehensive about. Besides, I came to realize that my apprehension was mostly fear based on ignorance due to having lived in a community insulated from such things.

I would suggest that until you really feel that this statue has no "life of its own," then don't display it. When you come to accept the fact that it is just a piece of metal or plastic or whatever, put it out then.

I'm not really religious but I suggest you should research the history of Buddha and find out for yourself be open minded.. Otherwise Buddha looks cool I think its an awesome center piece in a house or coffee table regardless of religion.

i dont think you'd get into trouble with the lord. He sees people for the good. He knows in your heart what your are. He created buddha also right. he created everything. My grandparents are mormon, and we have a little buddha in my room, i live with them, and they are continuously helped by the lord. my bf is a roman catholic and he thinks buddha is cool. so its not a bad thing to have a mini buddha. as long asyour faith in jesus is strong, then just put it up. xxx merry christmas to you too.

The Buddha is considered a human being by Buddhists, and not as a god. Therefore, you could view it along the same lines as you would view any statue of a wise teacher.

If you ever go to the Vatican Museum, you'll find both Greek and Roman statues of many of the gods of antiquity. It's art. If you find the statue aesthetically pleasing, by all means display it. I doubt the Pope is offering sacrifices to Venus or Zeus; but they're in HIS house. If it's good enough for the Pope, why not you?

Cheers.

I have a Buddha statue and im atheist and far from religious. He wasn't a god anyway if that's whats concerning you. I like to read his quotes as he was very wise. Put it on display if you wish, and don't worry about it.

Tough call. I wouldn't, but that's just me. The Bible says not to worship other gods, but as far placing a Buddha statue in your yard, I'm not sure. I would pray about it for a while and then decide. I don't think God will send a lightning bolt to strike you down or anything, lol, but I would pray about it anyway.
