My dog ate about a pound (hopefully less) off the table that we were packaging for the neighbors when we weren't looking. He threw up (we think most of it) within 30 minutes and then several more times over the next hour, until only bile came out. Now he seems fine, but it's a holiday weekend & I hate to bug the vet if I don't need to!

All chocolate is poisonous. However, if your dog threw up, he is probably going to live through this. Expect a bad case of diarrhea, however. The darker the chocolate, the worse it is.
How big is your dog?

Chocolate is bad for dogs. Hopefully, you're right and he threw up all that he ate. If you can't get to the vet to have him checked out, then keep a real close eye on him. Make sure he is drinking plenty of water and eating (his food, no more fudge!). If he stops seeming fine, get him to a vet.

I would call the vet just to be sure. Or look in the phone book for a vet. hospital.
Chocolate is poisonous to dogs. They also have a hard time getting it out of their system even in small amounts. Let alone the amounts you are speaking of.
Your lucky he threw up at all and didn't just die. But if it were my pet I would have called the vet right away and not have waited. 30 minutes after he ate it? What were you waiting for him to die? And I would still call the vet. Poor thing.

Pets are like children it is YOUR job to keep them supervised at all times. And keep anything harmful out of their reach.

Chocolate is toxic to dogs. Even a small amount can kill a dog that is very sensitive to it. If your dog has eaten alot of chocolate before and been ok I wouldn't worry too much. If not, it is best to call the vet if he seems to be behaving differently than normal. Do not rely on vomiting as the symptom as sometimes a very sick animal does not show that symptom (they try to hide illness).

Yes, Bkers chocolate, the dark kind , is much more potinent and it doesn't take a lot to make the animal sick. Death can occur. So keep your chocolates in a secure place and watch when you give it to the little ones, that the dog doesn't get it.

Yes, chocolate is toxic to dogs. Might need to see the vet!

Mine has had a little bit of it without any problems.

Sugar and chocolate especially, are toxic to canines. A dog will die if it ingests too much.

Now I don't know how much is too much. I guess that would depend on the size of the dog.

Yes! You need to induce vommiting again to clear the stomaq. Call your vet and if its late at night try to get the animal to swollow a few cc's of hydrogen peroxide, it will imediately cause your dog to vommit. Look I'm a vet technician, and I'm working on a link to back up what i told you right now

As far as time goes, it its been several hours, as I'm now reading in your question, vommiting is pretty much useless. You do need to get to the vet though. If enough of it was absorbed it could cause problems.
