I have seen girls with messy buns but I can never seem to get my hair right to make it so it looks cool. I have seen other girls ask on here but I even had followed those directions and it didn't work. My hair is a little longer then half way down my back.

I have hair almost to my derriere. I do the messy bun thing most days for the office.

1. Twist the hair slightly to one side of your head.
2. Wrap this twist around itself into a tight coil. Keep twisting as you go around.
3. Secure this with a single elastic at the base of the coil.
4. If your hair is so long that it coils around more than once, pull the outer layer of the coil back under the lowest one against your head. This helps flatten it out. It's kind of like making your bun inside out after you have made it,
5. Pouf up the crown of your hair with either your fingers or a comb to make a good shape and even out asymmetry caused by the twisting.

You're done. The messiness will happen on its own since you are not using hairspray, hairnet or bobby pins as you would for a classic bun.

its hard to explain but I will try my best... Pull your hair back into a pony tail and make a fist where you would put a hair tie. bend your head foward so your hair is covering your fist all over, and then put your hair tye around it a few times. With me it works well if your hair is slightly damp or the ends are slightly curled. If it doesnt turn out the way you want it too, try it again. also sometimes I use two hair ties to try and get the right look.

just kind of throw it up and tie it as fast as you can. its kind of hard to ask how to make a messy bun when really all your doing is making....a messy bun. there isnt a special way to make a special "messy bun"
