Hebrew, English and Arabic are the official languages in Israel.
(For example: you will see these languages on road signs)

Hebrew- The Jewish language. This spoken Hebrew (-not much different from the Tora/Bible) was reinvented by Eliezer Ben Yehuda in the second half of the 19th century.
Arabic- Because of the large Arab population.
English- Because of the British occupation from 1917-1948.

You will also hear a little Russian, Amharic, or Spanish from Russian, Ethiopian or immigrants from Spanish-speaking coutries. But these are relatively new immigrants and the languages are spoken among themselves.

The Israeli population is a linguistically and culturally diverse community. The 15th edition of Ethnologue lists 33 languages and dialects spoken in local communities, whether small or large [1]. The main language used for communication among Israeli citizens is Modern Hebrew, a language that emerged in the late 19th century, based on different dialects of ancient Hebrew and heavily influenced by European languages. Several laws determine the official status of languages and language policy in Israel. This confusing situation led to several appeals to the supreme court, whose rulings enforced the current policy of national and local authorities.

Modern Hebrew & Arabic are the main languages, but there are many other languages spoken there, too, as it's very multi-cultural.
