'''one murder every 22 minutes, one rape every 5 minutes, one robbery every 49 seconds, and one burglary every 10 seconds. And the cost of crime continues to mount: $78 billion for the criminal justice system, $64 billion for private protection, $202 billion in loss of life and work, $120 billion in crimes against business, $60 billion in stolen goods and fraud, $40 billion from drug abuse, and $110 billion from drunk driving. When you add up all the costs, crime costs Americans a stunning $675 billion each year.'''
why doesnt america focus more on 'america' then rest of the world??
675 billion dollars is wooooow, but can't we save a lot of money by stopping all these crimes?
well, don't know what i'm going to ask, any comments?:D

I'm not sure what you are asking either. Why doesn't the rest of the world focus on the rest of the world instead of America? Lets see, there have been about 2 million people murdered in the Middle East by other people of the Middle East since (?) 2004. What's up with a murder every 22 minutes. Hmm, that doesn't sound quite right, that is 2.7 murders per hour, 64.8 murders per day, 23,652 murders per year, thats 1 in every ~ 13,000 people murdered every year, maybe so, actually that's not to bad. I would rather live here that in any other country.
Actually, if you base the standard of living on the CPI and not the GNP then our standard is going down. The middle class is disappearing. Less than 3% of the population have more than 80% of the wealth. We have lost 4.5 million manufacturing and IT jobs to overseas sellouts since 2001. The US based companies are doing great but they are doing great being overseas, hiring overseas workers and paying very little tax thanks to the Free Trade Acts started by Carter in the mid 70's. The average wage for a blue-collar worker in this country, after adjustment, is 22% less than it was in the mid 70's. In 2005, 78% of the workers in this country were in some form of service industry (traditionally the lowest paying occupations) as opposed to 52% in the mid 70’s.
I’m sure that if we just let our civilian populations run amok with AK’s, bombs and swords and declared murder, theft and rape legal in the name of Christ then our crime statistics would hit an all time low and come into line with some of the more pleasant areas of the world like South Africa or the Middle East. Or possibly we could embrace Communism and a dictatorial government where any lawbreakers would be shot for slight offenses. I’m certain that our crime rate would also drop. Hey, maybe if that happened we wouldn’t have to have these discussions trying to defend our country because anybody disagreeing with the government would be locked away or executed.
Hmm, what do ya think?

Here's a clue for you. As to why.
Check a little further, break it down.
How much was drug related? Drug related crimes involve many factors (check them too) Gangs, cartels, and users. Cartels outside the US, running gangs inside the US, selling to users in the US.
Guns are used by all 3. Many drug users have to steal to support their habit. Some use a gun, some don't. Check the murder stats. I'd be willing to bet, a large percentage of those are drug related.
If you compare it to a snake...The USER is not the head. It does no good to cut the tail off the snake. And the cartels are based in another country. Should we just carpet bomb these "non-american" criminals?
Alcohol is a drug. A drug so widely accepted (and legal) that the US Government just gave up and taxed it, then applied penalties for the users that abuse it. IT IS NOT a crime to be drunk in your on home. So long as you don't do anything stupid..IE shoot the street lights out.
AND THEN, there are the disheartened high school and college grads that have to come to the cold hard realization that NO!! you can't start at the top with a 6 figure salary and 3 week vacations in Cancun. You actually have to work your @$$ off to accomplish these things. And they don't want to wait.

We have more people in prison than ever, and the highest incarceration rate in the world. So it's clear we should be tougher in crime, especially drug use, and lock even more people up. It's also clear we should contract out many of the functions of our prison system, such as running the prisons; this is good for our economy since private enterprise always does the job more efficiently and for less money. Finally, it's vital to cut social programs as much as possible; if people cannot pull themselves up by their own socks, they deserve the society and the life that they get.

There is so much crime, because of all the anger and hopelessness. Most people who struggle just to survive, know that the people in power don't give a hoot about them.....I know this because I am one of those who struggle. It's not just the people in power, though, it is also the companies we work for. Things have gotten so much worse in the last eight years, and things weren't all that great to start with.

Its all about that American freedom is not about basic human rights..but about materialism..Too many Americans base their freedom on what they own..Gun's..big cars..big houses and the list goes on..The root evil of crime in America is about the have and have nots. The love of the almighty dollar..Having said this
I will also say the idea of our founding Fathers and their vision
and the constitution they have left us is still worth more than all the gold in the world..what we need is to getr back to basics !

It's the new racism of the new millenium. The have nots want what the haves gots. Greed is a powerful motivator when there is a lot to be greedy about. Did you know that most people these days think they are worse off than their parents were in the 60s when in fact the standard of living is much higher now than it has ever been.
