hey

i want to dedicate an entire lifetime to a field of study of science starting from scratch in a non-academic and independent setting(you could say...from home)...which would be the best field to take up? would it be genetics? or artificial intelligence? or robotics? or particle physics? or maybe some field you could suggest me?

thanks for all info!

I have taken up artificial intelligence, myself. I have been working on it on a regular basis at home and independently since I was in 6th grade ... I am now 34.

The reason that I have been able to stick with it is that I have been able to continue learning all that time. Another reason is that I have been able to do it at home. (Afterall, how are you going to do particle physics experiments in your garage? Not that easy, if understand the field.) All this contributed to the subject never got boring for me.

When you find the field that you want to study like that, you will know it.

Oh, and how did the idea get stuck in my head to begin with? Reading science fiction. Today's science fiction is tomorrow's reality? It could happen, and you could be the one to make it happen.

The one you find interesting, is fun somewhat to you, and challenges you.

If you aren't entering the field because it grabbed your attention and challenges you, it is, likely, going to get boring fast and you will probably lose interest.
