THE TERMS FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD WORLD ARE OBSOLETE SINCE THE 1990'S!!!! Nobody use it now except old books and outdated professors.
The terms used now in the modern and politically correct global community is DEVELOPED, NEWLY DEVELOPED and DEVELOPING countries.
Thailand, according to the WorldBank is in between Newly Developed and Developing.
Thailand's economy surpassed that of Malaysia (the second richest in Southeast Asia after Singapore) in 2005. Thailand is the second richest economy of the 10 Southeast Asia Economic Community at this point in time.
Go Thailand! Thailand Boleh! Chai yo phratet Thai!

Well, you seem to have turned over an apple cart here.. My info was Europe is first world, America second world and others 3rd world w/the implication of being less developed... Now, to guess at what you might want to know - - Bangkok is far more technologically advanced than most places in the USA.. ie I had a friend in from Calif and he said the movie theatres here were nicer than the ones there.. traffic lights have meters that count down the # of seconds you have to get across the street.. there are a higher % of mercedes and bmws than any place I have seen in usa.. - now, up in my village, it is different.. subsistence farmers do not have beemers.. they are poor and there is not much tech.. however, next year, we will have adsl internet connect.. right now I am on dial up.. so, what i am trying to say is that it depends on where you go - I see the quality of life on the increase here and in the USA staying steady or declining.. hope this answers what you were after...

No.Third world country is a term that eas used to refer to a country with a low UN Index. The exact term I just looked at and fcan't remember.By this scale Thailand would be a second world country. But having been there many times I would say no.

Well - thailand maybe. But certainly not Bangkok. Bangkok to me is like a developed country. It's got most of what London or Melbourne has so its hard to call that place third world.

I agree with wariya, Thailand is the worlds most beautiful country, and perhaps if it become first world so to speak, these qualities would no longer be present in the country we now call a paradise

for a moment i was tempted to jump into the answer but after checking, it turns out that there is no definate connotation of third world.
quote from wikipedia
In general, Third World countries are not as industrialized or technologically advanced as OECD countries, and therefore in academia, the current term in use is "developing nation". Terms such as Global South, developing countries, less economically developed countries (LEDC), least developed countries and the Majority World have become more popular in circles where the term "third world" is regarded to have derogatory or out-of-date connotations.

It's more middle of the road. But on a scale it's closer to a third world country.

Yes, and the Thai government calls her country the developing country instead of the third world. It is the most beautiful country and the people are very friendly. They like foreigners, and I urge you to travel trying to go to the Northern part of the country.
