The origin of the terms freshman, sophomore, junior and senior relate to number of 'years' one had spent in college. This was of course back in the days when everyone took full units of classes each semester or quarter...

Since the changes over the last twenty or so years, the terms have lost much of their meaning - I spent 4 years and 2 quarters in college for instance - earned a couple of BA's and an AA in the process... so I was a freshman, a sophomore, a junior, a senior and I suppose a 2nd year senior...

But to my knowledge there is no real life relation to the terms as they relate to units completed... one could choose to determine the number of units complete, compare that with a full load schedule and do the division... or one could simply default to the traditional approach - 1st year = freshman, 2nd year = sophomore, 3rd year = junior, 4th year = senior, and everything after than is just more senior...

Up to you really,
