...need a bit more info.. what do you mean they are not studying properly? we dont know what your definition of proper studying is! They may be struggling, and if thats the case.. you can always consider tutors. My brother in law used to try and skip all his homework.. my mother in law eventually had to sit with him, 3 hours a night sometimes, at the table.. and watch him do his homework. It was boring and tedious for her.. but it made him graduate... and thats whats important.

Have a place for each of them to study and a set time that they do homework. NO tv. NO radio, NO ipod. No im's or chat on computer!!!

Give them 1 hour after school and 2 hours supervised with you.
then have a reward system.
Like a star chart for completed homework.

it sounds silly, and when they earn x amount of stars,
you decide, and they get to choose the video for movie night!
how cool is that?

It's competitive.

Perhaps you need to supervise thier study time, and offer help, or a tutor.
Kids can study 1 hour alone after shcool, go out and play, have dinner and then 2 hours of homework where mom and or dad is there with them helping as needed, setting proper examples!

no tv, no phone, no distractions.
no if, ands, or buts about it!!!

use the star chart for phone calls, to limit that if needed.
Use it as a reward.
find out what you kid really likes, and then reward good behavior
with that. Make them earn 10 stars and change up the star colors each week.

have a family meeting, tell the kids you want to help them with studies better and have them tell you what is struggling them.
ask them what would help? a tutor? more time one on one with parent? A quieter place to study? their own desk and not the kitchen table?
try this site for ideas like i suggested.
