As far as I know, it is said that as long as their sins aren't confessed they go straight to Hell.

man from utopia, this isn't a statement. It's a question. Learn to read and use your brain.

This is the Religion and Spirituality category. I can't understand why people like Gary and the Da Vinci's Code are doing here.

No, IF he/she repents for the mortal sin committed.
Soldiers on the battlefield get a general absolution because there is no time for individual confession. If they survive, they still need to go to confession.

During the SARS outbreak a few years ago, the physical act of confession was eschewed from the Penitential Service for obvious reasons. We are back to normal now.

That is not for certain whatsoever. The whole idea of "staying honest" in the Catholic church insists that you not pompously assume your own salvation. If you have a mortal sin, and you ask for it to be forgiven w/o a priest maybe. Last rites can be done on someone who has been dead for a while. There is much ambiguity and in the end, God is the Judge. At the same time, it is not fitting that I undervalue the sacrament of confession, which is what the church emphasizes, thus, you feel as if you must. That is the idea, for the dispensation of God's life-giving grace. So, some ambiguity is left, but they want to ensure that you -do- go to confession if you -can-.

God is capable of taking into account a lifetime of good and bad choices before determining a soul's eternal destiny, and everything we know about God tells us that he loves us and does not wish any soul to needlessly wind up in hell.

Near the end of life, God may choose to relax some of the usual standards for the forgiveness of sins, and even accept a last second, death bed apology.

If you're trying to address a specific situation, I suggest you take it up with a priest or a minister, who can likely give you a clearer perspective on it, rather than soliciting opinions here on Yahoo.

The question is, Are you in Christ or not? A murderer can confess that he murdered to a Judge but that does not make him innocent. He must pay the penalty. Christ paid the earned wages for sin.

If you are in Christ then:

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins Heb 10:26

He died once for all, but not all accept him. If you do not Believe that Christ is, you will die in your sins.

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. John 8:24

You must acknowledge your sins. Then you must ask Jesus to cleanse you of all sin. That is the Way to the Father. The minute you realize your words or actions offend Our Father, you must repeat the process. Several times a day as needed. You must always be right with Our Father, or the lake of fire will consume you. There is no other Way, my friend.

God knows our thoughts even before we think them. If a person is sorry for their sins and intends to confess them but dies before they can go to Confession, they will not go to hell.
For a person to go to hell, 1. the sin must be serious, 2. the person must know it is serious and 3. there must be free consent of the will. If any of these criteria are missing, the person will not go to hell but to Purgatory, a place of waiting, of purification, to atone for their sins.

Yes. And, where in the Bible does it say that? There's a certain age of accountability where you will be held respnsible for your sins. If you're 30 yrs. old, you'll go to Hell if you don't repent and believe that Jesus is Lord.

Absolutly. Do not believe other people who say Hell is not in the bible. Jesus spoke on Hell more than Heaven, as a stern warning. Jesus said do not fear those who kill the body but after that cannot do any more, but rather fear him who can destroy both body and soul in Hell. (He was talking about his Father). Anyway it depends on whether that person has excepted Jesus in their hearts, and it a person dies without confessing theirs sins to Jesus and asking him to save them, they will perish. But if that person is a christian and has confessed the sins but forgot to confess one for eg, that person was in a bod mood with somebody about 2 years before he died, then he would probally go to Heaven. But if somebody is a christian, and goes and kills somebody then did not repent, then died, that person will go to Hell, dispite believing in Jesus before hand. It does help to hav a right standing with God before you died. Look at king David, he has many wifes, and commited adultary, and King David was very sorry to God and did repent, so therefore before he died he confessed his sins and therefore had a right standing with God, like his son King Solomon, who also married a lot of women. He too confessed his sins and had a right standing with God, and he is is Heaven with his father king David. The theif on the cross next to Jesus asked Jesus to remember him when he goes into his kingdom, and Jesus said to him "I tell you the truth,, form today you shall be with me in paradise". Repent, Repent , Repent! and the hardest part is to turn away from them. Trust Jesus, as he is the one who will either say yes or not to you entering Heaven.
