The question was a joke, an attempt at make the little twits that think getting pierced anywhere but a prffesional Tattoo/piercing parlor is a good idea. I'm happy with the responses I got.

To those that still want to go get pierced by an inexperienced chick at clair's or wal-mart or anywhere other than a place with a real proffesional, check out this webpage on the evils of piercing guns.

If you still think it's a good idea, well then you're just the proof that there is little hope for the human race.

professional piercers have experience and go through rigourous schooling and apprenticships. they know what exactly to do. they are in a sterile environmet much liek a dentist office so the risk of infection is greatly minimized... at the mall there are a bunch of people around. it is not a sterilzed environment at all. the associates in the stores that do ear piercings are only trained to "pull the trigger on the gun" the professionals know the proper aftercare and size jewelry, knowing if the anatomy you have is right for a piercing. peoopel at the mall dont....

when the gun is used it causes unecessary healing times and increases your risks for keloids. since gun dont make a clear cut throgh liekt he hollow needles do the gun really pushes evertyhgin tot he side...

please get it done by a professional they are trained to do what they do! they have the proper equipment. proper sterilizing machines, ect. they are very nice even though they have alot of piercings and tattoos can be intimidating.. they are always very nice and patient and know all the answers that you may have....
hoep you make the right decision

and
*dramatic eyeroll* might want to get rid of that attitiude too....

but also profeesional pierce studios will ask for id if you look young... but i think for most states you only need to be 16 to get your ears pierced

but the needle is alot more quicker and less painful than gettign it done with a gun...

A professional piercing studio is ALWAYS better. A hollow sterile needle causes less trauma to the piercing site then a piercing gun, and the piercing will heal up quicker and more easily. Anywhere you go for a piercing, ears or otherwise, they will ask for proof of age. If you aren't 18, then you'll have to have a parent sign for you.

Even though I know what it is like to be a teenager and want something VERY badly, if a place does not enforce the age limit laws, you SHOULD NOT GET ANY WORK DONE THERE PERIOD. If they ignore the laws that state you must be at least 18, who knows what other laws they are violating -- such as sterility? Infection is not a fair trade for instant gratification.

Claire's will do piercings on the ear. I don't think it's not necessarily better to do it at a mall than a piercing shop and vice versa. Make sure they use sanitary tools, have a clean environment and have experienced people working there (I'm sure they have to be licenced too?). Although I heard if you want a cartilage piercing (the ones higher up on your ear) you should use a needle (which is typically used at a peircing shop) rather than a gun (cause they use piercing guns at Claire's.) I don't exactly know the answer as to why. And they will ask you if you are 18 so you should bring an adult with you. hope that helped :)

When I was a kid the only place to get your ears pierced was a jewelry shop, or a "do it yourselfer" at home. There were no piercing shops around, just a tatoo parlor and that was only in the major cities if you lived near one. How much the world has changed since then.

Yep they should ask. If not, run!! You want everything to be on the up and up. I had mine done at Claires or Afterthoughts simply because its the cheapest. Walmart does a good job too I hear. Just make sure they mark where the hole is going to be first and you check it out to make sure its even and centered on your lobe. Go for surgical steel earrings because they are less irritating.

go to piercing pagoda or clairs in the mall, it's probably better because they do it safe and probably get it done way quicker, no i dont think they'll ask you about your age or anything, but you can take an adult or older friend if you're worried
