bipolarity?

how would it affect the babies of the parents that have bipolarity and could it be possible for a child not to get it and pass on the gene to their kids?

my mother has bi-polar disorder. it is said one in three children can have bi-polar disorder. i am the oldest of three children and inherited the illness. the other two children in the family do not have bi-polar disorder. i am not sure whether the kids who do not have bi-polar order can pass on the gene for the disease.

No one in my family other than me has bipolar so it isn't always inherited directly. As with any illness there is a chance for passing on the illness but for each illness it's difference. Parenting-wise...it hasn't caused an issue for my daughter yet and I'm pretty sure it won't.

Yes it can be passed on. My mother inherited it from her grandmother and I do not have it but there is a chance my son may one day. So it can skip generations. Hopefully by that time they will have further researched the illness and their will be better medications.

I am bipolar and I have 2 kids.
My grandfather and my uncle and my cousin have it.(on mons side)
I hope that my children dont inherit it.
