For an eighteen year old girl who is a high school senior? She had been without a curfew about two years in the home she was in.

Then keep it the same. You can't just say "oh I'm sorry, now you have a curfew at 18 when you didn't at 16." Just tell her you expect her to be responsible and at least give a heads up as to whats going on every few hours.

If she can't do that, set a midnight curfew.

My parents moved my curfew back an hour for every year of age.. I moved out the month I turned 18, so i never had a curfew at 18... but at 17, my curfew was 1am-2am, on weekends ONLY. However.. I think it depends on where you live, and who shes going out with. If I was going on a date.. my curfew was more like...11 or 12!!! if I was going to a movie with my girlfriends.. it was more flexible. We lived in a very small town, and I had alot of freedom as a teen, but I also got good grades and never did anything to make my parents not trust me. It really depends on the kid and the situation. I think midnight is acceptable... but since they are 18, they are legally adults.. and might try to hold that over your head! As long as they are living under your roof.. it should be what YOU feel is acceptable!!

When I was eighteen but still in school, my curfew was 10:00 on school nights (to give me time to get home if I went to the movies or something) and 1:00 on the weekends. My mom bumped my curfew up on the weekends because when you're eighteen, you can get into some places you couldn't before, like clubs. It depends on how strict you want to be about where she can go.

When my son was 17, he had to be in at 11 on a school night (but we made exceptions when he had something special to do) and on weekends, he didn't have a curfew but we expected to know where he was and when he'd be home. If he was going to be late, he called.

He was responsible for getting himself up for school and if he had to be woken up by us, he would get a 1/2 hour taken off his curfew for a week. I think he only failed to wake up once or twice.

If I were in your situation, I would talk to the girl and explain how hard it is to worry about her when she is home late. Let her know all of those horrible thoughts that go through your mind. Ask her to work with you to come up with a reasonable system that makes you both comfortable.

At her age, she should be able to participate in what's happening. Unfortunately, she didn't have a curfew in the past two years so it's hard to start enforcing rules that will seem childish to her now. It won't be as hard to have her work with you to solve your concerns though. :)

I think 10:30 PM or 11:00 PM is a suitable curfew on school nights. Make sure she's getting her schoolwork done, too. On weekends I think midnight or 1:00 AM is a good time.
