Depends on how fast you drink it. Eggnog doesn't last around here! Most cartons has a expiration date on them.I would say i wouldn't drink it longer than what is the expiration date on jug myself, but if you want to keep it in refrigerator for a year till next holiday,you can, 'I wouldn't suggest it' but its up to you if you like cottegg cheese or some other scientific cure go for it! P.S. if you decide to save it a year and try it, I'm interested in what you think. hopefully you will post it next year!never know you might find the cure

I make mine fresh.
1 litre of full-fat milk
2 teaspoons of pure vanilla
1/2 cup of amber rum
8 egg yolks, no egg white
1 can of condensed sweetened milk
1 cup white sugar
grated nutmeg and cinnamon
cornstarch to thicken
Heat up milk with sugar and vanilla in a double boiler over medium heat for ten minutes. Stir till sugar is dissolved. Add egg yolks, beating in gradually with a whisk. Let cook for about five minutes over low, low heat. Add warmed-up condensed milk. Let warm for another five minutes. Thicken with cornstarch by adding water and then twice the amount of warm liquid and stir in gradually as needed. Add rum and mix in well. Leave to settle. Can be served warm or cold but leave overnight. Serve with cinnamon sticks and grated nutmeg on top.
6 large or 8 medium servings. Can't be frozen. Keeps twenty-four hours. Do not microwave or cook. Heat up again in double boiler. Individual servings can be microwaved, covered, on reheat.

until it gets moldy and smells nasty! it really depends on the brand. Usually check the expiration date on the package to know when its gone bad...♥
