So I ask you: Is a "divine" prophet who says you are condemned if you do not follow him better than a country that offers you the opportunity of freedom, justice, security, and the opportunity to live your life?

Alien: I put it in quotation marks, indicating that not all agree with the statement. I would also like to point out that Jesus had his good moments as well.

fateridder: As you said, these freedoms are disappearing because of religion, which would include Jesus' followers.

floyd, there were answers that answered your question by pointing out the numerous contradictions. I noticed you picked a best answer based on the fact they agreed with you rather than the quality of the question.

In both cases, the argument comes down to what you believe. the condemnation in the bible was written by those who wanted to build their church and was addressed to those who either had Jeus as an example or were otherwise worshipping roman emporers or statues. Those who follow the teachings of Christ depend upon their beliefs such as do unto others and love thy neighbor although many have taken the intent of Christianity to extremes.
As far as the country, If you check the U.N. Human index report you will see that when it comes to adusted real income, educational opportunities, and medical care we are behind 6 other countries - all constitutional monarchies - and unless we make changes we won't be that leading country at some time in the future. there are starting to be now even books comparing foreign countries as to which are the best for our retirees to go to when they leave this country as a good many are starting to do.
It boils down to picking something to believe in and believing in it but be well informed when you do.
you pretty much covered the pro and cons but although you mention freedom of the press there is still much we are never told about through that press. One example before I leave, the fact that J. Edgar Hoover denied that there was in fact a mafia when he had an FBI informant inside one mafia family in order to fight a different family; heard from an illegal wiretap that a murder was to be committed by this informant, allowed the murder to occur, and then framed 3 innocent men for that crime in order to protect his informant - several FBI agents are now in prison for that action. Or how often do you see it reported that the EPA is now being sued by several mayors and governors for not taking action on the steps the scientist working for the EPA have said must be taken to prevent world disaster in the future?
we have a free press but it can be politically motivated so it comes down to picking a belief and endorsing it.
One pro to offset the negative I mentioned about the country is that we do have the ability to change the course of our nation, but only if we get behind those trying to better it.

First America is not God or a god, second Jesus left this earth and sent us something that is here today, not just then and that is his Holy spirit given as a deposit for eternal life, you need this spirit and i can tell you don't have it yet, its found in John 3 and acts 2 Jesus says you must be born again.

Other Jesus Cons
*thousands of people killed by His 'Christian Soldiers' in His name
(ie Crusades),
*more thousands of people tortured to convert to Christianity
(see how the Scandanavian countries were 'converted, and the Inquisition),
*no-one seems to be able to read the book, make sense of it, and do as He had done.

More America Cons
*apathetic people,
*system works to make people bored and feeling futile,
*military-industrial complex,
*pharmaceutical-industrial complex,
*professional medical network dedicated to disempowerment and profit to the detriment of American people,
*technology advancing faster than most people are able to deal with.

Both. As Christians who are the majority in America need to help each other as well.

Neither. People must help themselves or they are not truly helped, they are just given another road to travel on and make more of the same mistakes because they have not learned how to survive unless they make themselves fully aware of where they went wrong.
