I understand your fear. Most dentists have nitrous oxide gas available that will calm you down. I asked for this when I got my cavities filled. I've heard of dentists that give you an anti-anxiety pill that you take like 30 minutes before your appointment too, but I'm not too sure how valid this is. I don't think they knock you out unless you have oral surgery. Call your dentist office and ask the receptionist what they can do for you. Be brave and good luck! And Merry Christmas!

all my life i've been terrified to go to the dentist. I lived with cavities for years, brushing my teeth 4 times a day! I also avoided wisdom teeth surgery becasue i was so afraid! Untill one day i called 1-800 dentists and asked them for a dentist who works with fearful patients. They referred me to this person who used nitrous oxide while filling in my cavities. she wa sos patient and showed me everything she was doing. I was no longer afraid! It seemed funny how i was scared but nitrous oxide was amazing. It made everything feel heavy and i no longer cared about the shot. after that i also got the surgery! Just call them and they refer you to someone. You'll see what a great difference it can make when a patient dentist walks you through all the steps and you slowly begin to realize that there is no need to be afraid. Best of luck

You need to talk to dentists and tell them about your fears. I was in my early 20s before I ever let someone put a needle in my mouth. Yes, I was drilled and filled up until then with no anesthetic at all. All it took was a sympathetic dentist who explained that they used a gel to numb the injection site, and I've had no problem since. You have to talk to them. I still don't like the needles and I think needles for any reason will forever bother me, but they don't terrify me anymore.

Depends on your dentist. Mine actually offers to completely put you under for the duration of the appointment. It costs extra and is a bit of a nuissance for both of you, but if you're willing to pay I'm sure no one would mind.
Just talk to your dentist or if you're afraid to talk to him about it in person just call his office and anonymously ask the receptionist.
Good luck!

I think if I were you I'd ask myself why I'm so scared of the Dentist? Just think of as someone else brushing your teeth for you, like getting a massage .

Yes of course. Anaesthetics are administered by dentists all the time. Ask them before you submit to treatment.

I was the same way. They gave me nitrous to relax me, because they said I was too tense to work on. Once I was under the effect of that, everything was okay.
