I recently went out of my state to visit my boyfriend, whom I've known and been in an on and off again relationship for 4 yrs. Although he lives in another state, we've managed to make it work. This trip I stayed for a week, which was the longest visit we've had. During this visit he seemed a little clingy. Which I understand because we have to make the most of the timewe have. He got a little upset because my phone kept going off. I've always had a majority of guy friends, and that is something I made sure he knew at the start of the relationship. But he got really mad about it, and punched a hole through a door. That really scared me. I want to trust him. But his actions make me feel like he could be abusive, and I don't want to get into that type of situation. He swears he would never lay a hand on me, and he understands that he was in the wrong. Should i continue on with this relationship? Or should I throw the towel in now?

I don't blame the guy for getting upset about the phone calls. NO guy wants the special time with his gf to be interrupted by other guys calling. And most guys don't take well to their gf's haveing male frieinds. Especally who call during a special weekend.

His volence could be isolated. or might be a part of him.

First you get rid of the guy friends calling

Most of the time agression like that starts with objects and then one day that object could very well be you. Just be careful it's no fun to be someones punching bag. Sounds like he's a bit over posessive too.

This is a difficult question you pose. Due in part to his clingyness, I would say he is becoming more posessive. Posessiveness-as you have rightfully deduced-often leads to abusiveness. He frightened you, and the manner in which he frightened you-destructive and vioent-does not bode well. Leave him now.

After four years, if that is the only sign of physical aggression he's shown, I say, if you love him, stay. If it happens again or it starts to risk your well being (like he starts throwing things recklessly or something), then talk to him about it again.

Throw the towel in!! That's not clingy, that's obsessive. You don't want that, trust me.

Next time put your phone on silent, and return the calls when you're not busy with your boyfriend, you do'nt see him that much, let your time be for him.
If he didn't hit you, then you should be o.k
