Cats whiskers are used to help them manuever in the dark. They also use their whiskers to judge space- if their head can fit through a space without their whiskers hitting the walls, they can fit. If you cut them off, your cat will not be able to detect walls, and could get hurt or trapped somewhere. You never, EVER touch a cat's whiskers for any reason. It's cruel and disgusting.

I recommend against it. When I was 6 or 7, I cut my cat's whiskers (well, I thought I was just evening them out).

ANYWAY, for a month my cat kept getting stuck in places he never even tried to get into before. So I can only assume that it was because of the whiskers.

According to cat books the whiskers on cats are for feeling their way around things. Physically cutting the whiskers won't harm the cat but I don't know why someone would want to do this.

One should never cut a cat's whiskers . They need them for sensing. Like hair, whiskers will fall out and new ones will grow.

Cutting or removing a cat's whiskers is considered abuse by animal protection agencies/authorities.

Well... seeing as cats use their whiskers for FEELING they might not appreciate a big bad human coming along with a pair of scissors and cutting them off... just a thought. Sometimes cats will have their whiskers removed as very young kittens before they are fully developed.

Yes. A cat's whiskers helps it to navigate in the dark and also helps it's balance. My son cut off my kitten's whiskers on one side and it kept on hitting it's head on things really hard.

reducing a cats whiskers screws up there equilibrium. Whiskers are meant to alert a cat while they get to close to to something so as that they do no longer run into it. After reducing the whiskers that's enormously humorous to computer screen them stroll around like they're under the impression of alcohol, lol. yet no, it would not somewhat harm the cat, in basic terms while they run into issues.

Whiskers help give a cat balance. Without whiskers it would be harder for cats to get around.

Yes because a cat uses its whiskers as a sensory organ. They are extremely sensitive to air currents, also they use them to determine whether an opening is large enough for them to get through. I doesn't give them pain to cut the whiskers but it will put them off their game for a bit. I had a kitten whose whikers were chewed off by his littermate and he did just fine.

OH, GOD!
Tell me you were not experimenting........
Cats are stealth. Before they even think about what they WANT to do, they " use" their whiskers.
They actually feel vibrations and the whiskers "funnel" the scents into their noses.
Their whiskers are like sonar. Like a dolphin has.
Love your kit kit.
And dont mess with her, it will get you in the end!
MOM.
Merry Christmas!
