Basically, Catholicism revolves less around the bible and Jesus than it does around the Catholic church itself, its traditions and "sacraments", etc. Catholicism promotes many non biblical beliefs, such as praying to Mary and the saints, the idea of purgatory, confession to a priest, etc. Christianity deals with the bible only (the Catholic bible has books not in the protestant bible), and does not hold any one man (i.e., the pope) as closer to "God" than anyone else.

My MIL says she is not christian.. she is catholic. Just as some people fill a pew as a requirement, it doesnt make them Christian. repentance and forgiveness by the Blood makes people Christian.. not what church they attend. there are Christians in all denominations of Christian churches.... but there are NONchristians in each and almost every church as well.
