When you got your first piercing *standard lobes gunned at the mall don't count* why did you do it?

Was it because you saw an older person with that piercing and you thought it was cool?

Or was it because ever since you'd seen that particular piercing *or maybe before you knew it could be pierced* you had that odd sensation in the area that something was missing, as though you were literally itching to get it pierced?

Or did you do it just to stand out, because you felt too vanilla and thought a hole in you *whatever* would make you different?

Be honest, I'd like to know if retireing a piercing would be like taking off a braclette or removing a limb.

I said that standard ear piercings gunned at the local mall don't count. It baffles me how few people read before they respond...

Okay, now we've had a real retard response. Someone really asked me what I had against piercings...

I HAVE EIGHT!!!

How do you get "I don't like piercings" from "Piercing guns are the devil, get it proffesionally done"???

Let's cound all the piercings I've had... that's the 8 I have now, 4 navels, second lobes removed for a job, a snug, 4 webs done, five if you count the one still in...

I LOVE PIERCING. It's me, what the hell would possess anyone to ask what I have against them?

The world is truly full of idiots. You dis the bad method therefore you cannot like it at all? Yes, this makes sense.

At NO POINT in any question have I claimed that I dislike piercing, tattoos, any body mod. WTF???

my mods are a part of me. i refuse to remove them for family or work. to me, that would be equal to chopping off my arm... i've come close to being on the street, and i was living off of ramen noodles (which has actually resulted in the death of someone at a neighbouring school) but to me that's better then taking out a piercing for some s.h1tty job.

my first real mod, other then diy lobes with a needle, was my eyebrow. i was 16. i didn't know anyone else with it, and noone at my school thought it was cool, but i liked it so i got it. i've never been one to not do something just because others thought it was weird, but i don't do stuff just because it's different. i'm naturally a freak.

Well, my first real piercing was my navel.

I was 12 at the time (12 years ago) and I just thought it would be really neat. This was long before the whole "trendy-ness" of it. Looking back I am actually amazed my parents took me to a shop and payed for the piercing!

Next would be my first of 4 tattoos and several more piercings in my ears (industrial, helix, cartilage) and now the "standard lobes" are stretched to a 2... going for the 0 soon.

I no longer have the navel. I'd have to say it's kinda like removing a limb, more than a bracelet. I mean, I still have the scar... and when I see other peoples... I fondly think back to when I did have it. Before I was different cause I had it, now I am different cause I don't!

You said earlobe piercings don't count, but as of right now, I only have 4 piercings, all in lobes. Although, I can post the chart containing all 15 piercings and 6 tats that I am working on getting done. Oh, and half of that first tat on my ankle. (still needs a touch up and the addition of the rose)

But I can answer your question. In my opinion, there are some parts of a person that can only be uniquely expressed through a series of body mods, be them tats or holes, that turn their body into a living work of art.
Although I decided what piercings I wanted after viewing them on another person, I had a specific reaction in the area of my body that the piercing would go through. These include, but are not limited to, itching of the ears in the location of desired piercings and slight arousal of the genitals, including nipples, when I find the desired piercing, and a natural arching in my lower back when I FINALLY found the right tat to go there.
As for taking away/covering those holes/marks- I can cover the tats with clothing, no problem. I can take the earring/bar out of a piercing for work reasons. But permanently letting go, impossible. It would be like letting go a part of my soul, and that is so much worse that losing an arm.

My reason for waiting on the rest of the piercings- On my right ear, I am done with the lobe but will be getting two cartilages. On my left ear, I am getting two more lobes and one cartilage. The third lobe will probably be another cheap skate, but the fourth, cartilages, and all body piercings will be done pro. The fourth lobe because of the positioning to miss the cartilage, because I'm getting so close to it.

I've got 6 piercings-2 down under, 1 septum, lip, ears. I have let some close over the years, like my tounge. That was only because a friend of mine had to have alot of expensive dental work due to the piercing pushing the gums down, so I got scared. Otherwise, I'd still have it. I rarely wear my septum down, unless I'm wearing a special outfit for a club. I've had it over 8 years & would be lost without it (even tho it's a retainer). My ears are stretched a little, & I adore them.

The bottom line is that I've let a few piercing's go, but the few I have left are very personal, for me, my enjoyment, pleasure, etc. And to look at me, noone knows all the mod's I do have; it's my body, my vessel. My place to decorate. So be real sure your ready to remove something if you do.

My dad was a WW2 Navy vet and for as long as I can remember, I adored his tattoos. I recently got an old-skool Navy tat to honor him.

Later, I started trying to punch holes in parts of my body other than my ears before there were shops to do it. Pierced my own nipple with a safety pin (very bad idea).

I've just always been a bod-mod lover. My first 'real' piercing (not counting the safety pin) was my tongue.
Then my hood, then my navel. Two helix.
Now stretching lobes -currently 6g.
Tribal rituals also fascinate me and I'd love to try suspension.
My piercings do feel like a part of my body. I have had them for so long.

My first *real* piercing (not counting ears) was my tongue. I got that when I was 18 and havent stopped yet. The reason I like piercings and tattoos doesnt make sense to people but I'll try to explain it.

Growing up I was always the fat kid, they didn't make cute clothes for me,and no matter how much I glammed up, I was still the fat kid. One day I was bored so I grabbed a needle and pierced my ears. then I did it again...and again....And soon I realized that I could be 15 lbs, or 500 lbs (which im not, just so we're clear), Piercings fit me no matter what size I was. They made me feel better about myself somehow even though everyone else hated them. my reasons now have changed but I still like them and i continue to get them.

I dont expect to have my piercings forever...but right now I wouldnt be able to remove them, they've kind of become a part of me.

I have 2 tongue rings..When I first got my tongue pierced, I talked with a lisp for a month....Now I'm so used to them..I talk with a lisp whenever I take them out.

(sexy huh?:-p)

I got my ears pierced for the first time when I was in 7th grade. I did it just because I liked sparkles :). But last year i got my cartilage in my ear pierced, and now that you mention it, it does feel like now it's part of me. It just goes with me, i guess. But it's probably because It' something that makes me a little different from everyone else, so it's a way to show who i am. Does that help at all?

I got an industrial piercing in my ear, and I don't feel like it is part of me. I think it represents my privilege to be weird and look how I want. I will take it out one day, when I am older and have bigger responsibilities. While I am in my twenties, I am still down with piercings and whatever else you like. Your appearance is your way of communicating who you are to anyone who sees you. It should be taken seriously, but with an appreciation for different people's personalities.
