If we found life on other planets would you see that (as a religious person whether you are christian or not) as a beacon of hope or the downfall of the foundations of religion since they dont coincide together?

Im Hindu and we believe in infinite numbers of Universes and infinite lifeforms because its all gods creation. And with such a vast and cosmic view something like finding aliens in another planet is not going to dissapoint me.However I would think that mankind has more missions on Earth like bonding with god and following religious principles (no matter what faith you are from) rather then look for aliens.

Being a Christian who has read and studies the Bible, point out to me just where the Bible says there is no life in the universe but on Earth.

If what you say were true I can't think of any religious doctrine that even tells us there are planets outside those of our own solar system. Therefore if what you way is true the discovery of other systems alone should have caused the downfall of th e foundations of religion.

Well, life will not be found on other planets.

We are at the very beginning of humanity at approx. 6000 years.

This is the only planet where Salvation has been offered by being redeemed in showing faith in God's Son, Christ Jesus.

Once God's Universal Sovereignty, that had been challenged by his Adversary Satan the Devil, is vindicated never again can God's right to rule be challenged. Like a court case the evidence that humans cannot govern themselves without God's guidance will have been presented once for all time.

After this happens here on Earth............the Sky is the limit.

With billions of galaxies throughout the universe, if it is God's purpose to do so, then..........His Will be done.

Furthermore, I personally believe that any talk of aliens or the like is from the adversary who wants people to believe the lie instead of what God has done for the possibility for redemption.

"For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light. It is therefore nothing great if his ministers also keep transforming themselves into ministers of righteousness. But their end shall be according to their works." 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

In other words 'things' only LOOK beneficial to the spiritually uneducated. For instance, how do you explain this:

From 1989-

Why are there so many religions?

A recent tabulation concluded that there are 10 main religions and some 10,000 sects. Of these, some 6,000 exist in Africa, 1,200 in the United States, and hundreds in other lands.

Many factors have contributed to the development of new religious groups. Some have said that the various religions all represent different ways of presenting religious truth. But a comparison of their teachings and practices with the Bible indicates, rather, that the diversity of religions is because people have become followers of men instead of listening to God. It is noteworthy that, to a large extent, teachings they hold in common, but that differ from the Bible, originated in ancient Babylon. (See pages 50, 51, under the heading “Babylon the Great.”)

Who is the instigator of such religious confusion? The Bible identifies Satan the Devil as “the god of this system of things.” (2 Cor. 4:4) It warns us that “the things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God.” (1 Cor. 10:20) How vitally important, then, to make sure that we really are worshiping the true God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and that our worship is pleasing to him!

Ray Bradbury wrote an interesting story similar to this once. I'm not sure of the title.

Astronauts from earth cross the galaxy to land on an inhabited planet to find they are humanoid and easy to communicate with. The astronauts are ecstatic though once the natives meet them and determine they are from another planet they aren't much interested.
The astronauts have to chase after them and ask "Aren't you excited? This is a huge moment in history, you've made contact with beings from another planet!"
The native explains to him that last night someone came back after millions of years to fulfill a prophecy. From the way he worded it, it sounds as if Jesus came back to that planet.

Point being, if there is a Jesus (I don't believe there is) why would the existence of alien civilizations weaken his claims? What if he created those societies as well.

...and what if friendly aliens made contact with us the day after Jesus returned? Think anyone would care?

How would life on other planets not coincide with my religious beliefs? I'm not too proud to think that this human race on this planet earth could be the only life in the universe OR that this could be the only universe. God is much greater than our simple human minds could ever begin to conceive. He can make whatever He wants. Just because humans can't figure out how or explain it doesn't make it any less so. I know that God created me and He cared enough about me to send His Son Jesus Christ to die for me. I know that if I accept that gift I will receive eternal life and one day live with Him in Heaven where I will know all of these other answers. Salvation is very simple. We just try to make it complicated in vain efforts to prove our intelligence.

Well as a Christian I don't think it would really make a differance in my beliefs! I mean God is the ultimate creator and if he made life in other places than I would probably think more highly of him! The bible even says that man is not meant to know ALL things, so personally I wouldn't be surprised, I would just praise God and give him all the glory!! And all God's people said........AMEN!!!!!

No! It just so happened that it was Adam, born of this planet and his violation of God's Garden law that Introduced Sin into the human race here, and the need for Salvation from this fallen condition. .

I'd see it as something to be expected. Those that don't think there must be life out there among thestars have got to be the most egotistical, arrogant people around.

I would be very interested (neither disappointed nor relieved) if we find life on other planets.

I am a Christian.
