after surfing this site's questions section i notice alot of people bickering. Your either Christian or atheist and some of those people r being ***** to each other here with some of the things they've said. i notice it myself when i speak with my friends, who r Conservative christians. I being agnostic baffles them and when we get into dicussions on my beliefs one of them usallly(sp) gets anger and starts to insult me. so i ask this question: what Does it take for people to be more tolerant of others beliefs and what should we do to teach tolerance to others?

First we need to evolve into open minded people. Then we can learn to tolerate each others beliefs more. until then, ppl are going to get defensive because they think that the other party is telling them they are wrong for their beliefs.

You asked the right people when you ask Christians. We have had to learn to be tolerant in this world. I could give you a long list of people who in the name of God did great things for the world. If you did a survey of prisons you would find that most of the people there are NOT Christians. If you walk into any bar and counted the Christians, they would out numbered big time. The point is,we are not a drag on society. We live good lives. No, we are not without our flaws, we are only human and make mistakes. But tolerant we are, because tolerant we must be.

The people who need to learn tolerance are these atheist and others who say awful things about us, they insult us for being who we are, and who we are is the reason we are NOT a drag on society, we are part of the solution because we do live clean lives.

My personal belief is that there is only a certain degree of tolerance that should be allowed people. For example:

Should people have the right to believe whatever they want and live their lives by that belief as long as their actions are within the law? - My answer is yes, they absolutely should.

Should people be allowed to use their belief to flout rules at work, evangelise other people and prejudise against people? - My answer is no, they absolutely should not.

Muslims shouting "death to the west" should be locked up, as should christians shouting "death to the gays" and atheists shouting "death to the religious".

I fear that differing beliefs between species will last until the death of our species and true "tolerance" which is automatic, not forced, will never be a possibility.

You're rather new here, so you've really seen nothing yet.

Bickering comes about becaues some people think that if they are right (and they believe they are), that everyone else must be wrong.

Then, they take this a step further, and explain their logic and assume that anyone who can't see it for its simplicity must simply be stupid.

They go from there and identify stupid people as something less than worthy of respect.

These people have no ability to respect an alternate viewpoint and therefore justify hostility.

It's been said for years... ignorance breeds contempt.

tolerance isn't learned from other people, you have to find and discover it yourself. Many people here are very sensitive when it comes to religion. It's pretty pointless actually when you think of the bickering continous since no one can prove one religion or belief right or wrong. As of me, being young and visiting this site often, can't believe how ignorant many of these adults can be.

the spirit of confusion is causing the up heavel, that satanic spirit does not want people to come to Christ, and will cause division, now your friend is getting frustrated with you because he cares and he has met Jesus the son of the living God and has his spirit in him and wants you to know the truth and cant figure out why you have not seen it yet, so the enemy sows discord, but I have to tell you, Jesus is real and your friends are right, and maybe the spirit of confusion is working through you.So take a look at your self and your beliefs because the evidence is overwhelming. They love you!And so does the Lord.

Because we are to be Christlike and He was not tolerant of sin. People who believe false doctrines or who believe in nothing at all as the Atheists or deny Jesus Christ are living in sin. We say something about it because we care. We don't want to see people die and go to hell. It's our responsibility to tell others. If we don't then your blood will be on our hands. I don't want to stand before God one day and have to apologize for keeping my mouth shut with the excuse that I was afraid to hurt someone feelings.

Because we are not aware of the purpose of our being in life and we have a very big tool ( brain) that we think is better than the others. This is not true because it is what we put in the brain that makes it useful.

I think people have lost their common sense. They have lost the ability to realize what is important and what is not important. We end up focusing on little things that don't matter. Common sense is a lost art.

The answer to that question will be the answer to our salvation. Jesus said "I did not came to bring peace to this world but war". We will never be completely happy and our soul will not rest in peace until we don't return to our Creator God.
