I have a seven month old female cat and she's always been VERY good about going in her litter box, but sometimes she doesn't get far enough in and ends up going down the side of the box. I live in a small apartment and the only out of the way spot for her box is not quite tall enough for an enclosed box. Any ideas? I'm tired of picking up little poos off the floor!

How big is the box? Do you clean the poop out every day? If she can't get far enough in, either because it's too small or there are other poops in the box that she's trying to avoid, she might be hanging her rear end over the edge of the box. You could get a box with higher sides so that she has to go all the way in--a young cat shouldn't have any problem accessing a higher-sided box.

Is there anywhere else you could put the box? Cats like to be upright when they use the litter box, but if there is something overhead and they can't get into their preferred position, they sometimes will have litter box issues.

Good luck!

This happens sometimes i know, they don't have enough room and it falls on the side and sticks! She is trying to hit the spot but there is just not enough room sometimes, I think keeping it clean will help cause she is looking for a clean spot and it could be next to the side of the box and it causes it to fall on the side, also make sure the box is big enough, get the biggest size you can get. It would be nice if you had a place for a closed in litter box but you would have to still clean the top ! Also always put newspaper under the box so pee don't get on the floor and incase she misses the box when she poo's too ! It will fall on the newspaper not the floor! when mine got it on the side of the box i just cleaned it(the rim). they can't help it if they miss. at least they go to the box!!

get a littler box that has a cover over it... some even have little swing doors incase it tries pooping out the door, I guess! LoL Or maybe a bigger litter box? My cat does the same thing, but I have a litter box with a rim around it so the poo doesn't get out of the box. Try either a box with a cover or a rim around it! Go0d Luck!

Oh boy, do I hear you on this one. I too live in a small apartment. I have a fat kitty, and he has accidents on the side of his litter box. If you can swing it, get a bigger litter box. If you can't, get those litter liners. Get ones that are slightly bigger than your box. That way the liner hangs over a little, and catches the poo. Good luck, I know this sucks.

Your problem is not how clean your litter box is, so don't worry about that.

If you can't get a hooded cat box, try finding one with higher sides. You don't have to put alot of litter in it. Just enough to cover the bottom will do. Also, if you see your kitty going potty and her butt is hanging over, pick her up and put her farther in the box.

Is the litter box large enough to accommodate the cat, if too small for her size, she doesn`t have room to scratch a spot to do her business in, therefore her behind is too close to the edge of the litter box. Keep the box clean of all feces, she may be hunting a clean spot which is also too close to the edge.

Just be thankful it's not pee!

It could be that the box isn't large enough. Some cats are very finicky about the size and shape they prefer.

It could be that the box isn't cleaned often enough. If she has to make a path to avoid previous stuff, then she might be leaning outside the box. The box should be cleaned every day.

You could try a litter box with a rim around the edge. It helps when cats scratch and kick up litter outside the box.

Make sure the litter box is clean at all times. My cat would only poop outside the box when it was full.

Merry Christmas

Some cats just do that and always will. The best thing is to use a liner. If you don't want to do that, you can buy 2 covered litterboxes. While one is in use, you are cleaning the other one using a toilet brush and comet in the tub. Just switch them once a week and deal.

put a liner in the box and under the box if she misses than you can clean it up but to fix it when you see her heading that way pick her up and place her in the middle of the box
