I want to make a chocolate cake without any icing. Something like a chocolate bread but a cake. Where can I get the recipes or can you tell me the recipe?

My family has been using Alice Medrich's chocolate pound cake recipe for a long time, and it's always been a hit with everyone we've shared it with. It doesn't need any frosting and is delicious on its own or with a bit of vanilla ice cream. I hope you like it!

1 1/3 cup sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
12 tablespoons sweet unsalted butter
3 eggs
1 tablespoon instant coffee dissolved in 1 1/2 tablespoons hot water
1/2 cup buttermilk or regular milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
powdered sugar (optional)
6-8 cup capacity bundt pan or Turkish head mold

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease pan all over.

In an electric mixer with paddle attachment, beat sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined. Beat in butter and eggs for 1 1/2 minutes at medium speed. Add coffee in water, buttermilk, and vanilla extract; beat for 1 1/2 minutes at medium speed.

Pour batter into pan evenly and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes on a room-temperature surface, then unmold onto a plate. Sprinkle or sieve some powdered sugar on top.

This one does have an icing that goes with it, but you don't really need it, as the cake is so moist. I'm not going to include the special icing here with it as you don't want it. This is my favorite cake any way.

SHEET CAKE

In a bowl mix
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour

Bring to a boil, then remove from heat
1 stick butter
3 1/2 tablespoons cocoa, omit if you want a white cake
1 cup water
1/2 cup shortening

Pour into sugar and flour, mix together.
Add 2 eggs
1/2 cups buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix all together, batter will be thin.
Pour into a SHEET CAKE PAN (looks like a cookie sheet with sides) that is greased and dusted with flour or cocoa.
Bake at 400 for 20 minutes

Make a basic chocolate cake, and to make it pretty, sprinkle a little bit of powdered sugar on top. If you want to get fancy, take a hershy's chocolate bar and stick it in the fridge to make sure it's super hard. Then, take your vegetable peepler and shave some curly q's on top. It will look super pretty without all the icing. If you keep all the toppings (sugar and shavings) moderate, then you will also have a lower fat cake too! Good Luck! And happy baking!

Here is a recipe whose author prefers unfrosted:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon hot water
1 cup cold water

Sift together flour, cocoa, and salt.
Cream shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs, one at a time.
Stir in the vanilla.
Dissolve baking soda in the hot water.
Stir into the creamed mixture.
Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with cold water.
Beat well after each addition.
(I make 5"dumps":dry- water- dry- water- dry).
Bake in a greased and floured 13" X 9" X 2" pan for 20-25 minutes at 350F.
