It reminds me of how the Church applied and misinterpreted Pauls letter that said to have only one wife. Paul was giving advice to a friend of his who was overworked.

I think it proves that churches have no right to comment or issue guidelines in regards to marriage or sex. I think there should be a separation between "church and sex". Churches should stay out of both marriages and divorces. They, almost have no training or experience in such matters.

It gauls me that the Pope, has the audacity to condemn birth control pills, or force priests into celibacy, or allow his priests to molest little boys.

That was not the big deal. King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Can you top that? Israel was at war constantly with nations sorrounding them. By keeping their captured enemy and making this enemy to be one of their allies is to marry a daughter of a leader of the tribe. Chances are each warring faction is always composed of several tribes and to marry the daughter of one tribe only or just select from few tribes would mean another splinter group would still go against. The wisest decision is to be related to all the warring tribes and share the wealth of the kingdom headed by King David or King Solomon. Remember, King Solomon did not ask God for wealth and power but he asked for wisdom. It was granted and being wise at any time is always a man's road to wealth and power. Like in business, giant corporations merge their strength and money to stay on top.
I know you have something to ask about morality. It is not so there. Moral of the lesson is to be wise at any given time. This time however. our law does not allow that kind of wisdom (though there are still some than can manage to cheat but not that many.) Besides I do not even believe that Solomon have slept with all of them otherwise his descendants would still be flourishing around the Middle East. With King David, it is possible since you said only eight wives.

I think it messed him up in some ways honestly. Although he is considered by God the man after His heart...he never truly had a decent, really loving relationship with a woman as he could have had... that is part of the reason why I believe he acted how he did with Bathsheba. No one is perfect...but, both David and Solomon ended up having difficulties because of the muliple wives and concubines issue. That is truly why God desired for one man, one woman relationships... he has obviously allowed multiple wives and concubines in those situations, but that does not mean it was the optimal plan for his people.

I tend to think about the same that God did. He warned the Israelites before Saul (or David) became king not to let the kings have multiple wives or multiple stables of horses (meaning several armies). Do so would get David in trouble, with the sons of his different wives plotting against and murdering each other, with his son Absolem turning David's other armies against him and forcing him into exile, David's wives being publicly raped, etc. Plus the multiple wives got Solomon (David's son who followed him to the throne) into trouble also.

Every time multiple wives are involved, it ends up causing all kinds of trouble. Look at the Jews and Arabs still fighting today that came from Abraham's multiple wives.

The practice of multiple wives is condemned in scriptures. Unfortunately that did not some people from doing it.

Isn't it amazing that they accept so many men in the bible having multiple wives, but when the Quran says it's ok to marry four only to help them survive and also advises it's better to have only one because a man by nature is not able to be just to just the one, it's outrageous to them and they want to call all muslim men evil for it? I think it's so amazing these same people can say Muhammad (PBUH) was a horny goat herder and a pedophile for what he did, but accept Lot offering up his daughters to be raped and then having children with his OWN children. Their churches are doing a very great job of brainwashing them into not thinking twice about the same situations. They certainly are doing a nice job of making them think irrationally.

God allowed that a guy would have different halves and concubines. that does no longer imply that he "recommended" it. Solomon develop into smart yet by taking on all the distant places different halves it grew to become him against genuine worship, so as that wasn't a sturdy element in any respect! bear in mind while Christ got here to earth, he fulfilled maximum of the old regulations. And a guy would desire to have one spouse, no greater effective than that. a million Cor 7:2 Then additionally bear in mind that as quickly as Adam and Eve have been on earth, God actually remarked approximately them being joined collectively as guy and lady, purely as all the animals had buddies besides. that is an occasion of ways that is going to be, in spite of the indisputable fact that, seem on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. It had develop into so sexually corrupted, Lot rather made it out, together with his spouse finding lower back "lots", she develop into grew to become to a pillar of salt. those needs are in human beings immediately and there'll be judgment for it! lots to evaluate while it includes ideas contained in the Bible. Thx for asking.

Haven't you ever heard of the old saying, "Once a King, always a king. But once a Knight is enough..."?? Haha.

I guess King David pales by comparison with his son, King Solomon, who had at least a thousand women! And then some...

Peace be with you.

I could be mistaken but I thought David had hundreds of wives. In any case he was said to be fabulously wealthy so I suppose he could afford it. I think it must have been great fun so long as his wives were obedient and weren't allowed to nag him to death. It's good to be the king.

Pretty awesome, except if it were up to me, there'd be zero wives and about 50,000 concubines.

I try not to let it keep me up at night, how about you?

Please try not to take something in the Bible out of context. The Old Testament is a history book. When Christ came to earth everything changed and the two commandments in the New Testament are how we should live our lives today.
