It comes out of the blue and I feel as if a thick nail is going through my head. I feel it all the time in the center of my head (towards the left). I can describe it as the worst pain of my life. I grab my head and scream, but the pain is gone in about 5-10 seconds. I have been suffering from it every day since 12-11-06. I don't have any other symptoms.

These do NOT sound like migraine headaches at all. The sound like a headache known as CLUSTER headache which comes on out of the blue and are so short in duration they are hard to treat, except prophylacticly. Straight Oxygen does seem to help in relieving the pain associated with CLUSTER headaches. These headaches are so severe that in the earlier part of this century they were dubbed "suicide headaches" because those that had them and couldn't get relief usually took their own lives. Consult Headache Neurologist or an Internal Medicine Physician with experience with clusters, call and don't be afraid to ask. Let your fingers do the walking. For know, go to the ER and let them know that you are experiencing CLUSTER headaches and they might expedite the neuro workup in order to see the headache neurologist, sometimes an epidural with steroids works wonders as does steroid nasal spray. Long-acting NSAIDS he'll fill you in, but get to the ER.

If there is a hospital emergency room near you, get there. Make sure you tell the nurse how often this occurs, how many times since the 11th, and if you have been changed any of your eating habits, like, trying out a new dish at a restaurant.

You may be having an allergic reaction to something you ate, something you just bought, or something new you brought into your place around that first time.

Center of your head to the left? Does that mean the forehead, over your eye? That sounds like a cluster migraine, they're horribly, wickedly painful, and they do feel like you're being stabbed with an ice pick or nail or something.

They don't go away that fast, though, at least not for me.

I VERY STRONGLY SUGGEST that you go to the ER. Tonight. It might be as simple as stress, it might be a cluster migraine, or it might be something very serious. Please take care of yourself.

Happy Holidays!

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

They probably are not headaches. They are probably migraines-my father have them and through him-I was blessed with them as well. My migraines last longer sometimes though. Alot of times, it can come from different things.
