Let him know you are thinking of him and love him. Ask if he needs anything, rides to dr, therapies etc. Maybe this will help reheal the falling out between you and his mum. You never know what will happen in this life and when you will need family. Prayers of healing will be said for your nephew.

Write what is in your heart. It has to come from you to be sincere. No matter what has happened he is your family, and your being there for him in his time of need is all he needs to know. send him your love and best wishes for a full recovery, and let him know that you will always be there regardless of the situation. Stay positive, I hope he gets better soon.

Just be sure to let him know how much you care about him, and tell him that if he needs anything that you will be there for him. I think that is just about the best thing anyone could say.

I would think that the best thing you could write would be how truly sorry you are that he is so sick and that you want him to know that you care and are there for him should he need anything.
