Wow, you really ticked off the "Bitter Church" folk with this question!

I don't know about being "Damned," but yes, most religions do believe "It's our way or no way."

Buddhism and Hinduism, believing in reincarnation, say that you'll keeping being born until you get things right.

Christianity, Judaism and Islam believe in some sort of judgment which you need the lessons of their religion to get through.

I'm not really up on Wicca, Shintoism, Taoism, or Jainism, but I'll bet there is at least a belief that a person must practice those faiths in order to live their lives well.

It seems like a religion would have to have that lesson, though, in order to stay in existence. If you're not asked to do anything, usually you don't. And if you aren't asked to stay true to a calling, then it's not really a calling anymore.

Christianity - yep, ok. You got me there.

The same with Judaism and Islam. Funny, those are all the Abrahamic religions. Let's look at some others:

Satanism - nope.
Paganism - nope.
Hinduism - nope.
Buddhism - nope.
Sikhism - nope.
B'ahai - nope.
Shintoism - nope.
Taoism - nope.

I think there's a pattern here.

It's just the Abrahamic religions, actually - which is far from most: Christianity, Judaism and Islam. And not even ALL traditions of Christianity or Islam have that message. Go figure - I guess they ARE starting to catch on.

Any christian related religion, certainly. There are those that don't though. Pagans believe each person has a right to find their own connection with their deity in whatever way works for them, but shouldn't try and force it on others who don't believe the same. Buddhists believe nothing is real, so what a person chooses hide their fears behind is up to them. There are religions with no hell. Christians created hell to keep their people in line. A few others have used visions of horrible afterlives, as it is a good way to control the masses.

If you don't believe the truth, you will believe a lie - it's the only alternative. And if you believe the lie, you will pay the consequences. If I knew that an atomic bomb was going to explode in Cincinnati at 10 o'clock and told you so, If you did not believe me and leave the city, you would die. Those are the facts. If you don't like it, it wouldn't change the facts. You better be very sure of the truth.

Judaism doesn't. They actually don't believe in damnation at all, so ii reference to the First Commandment I would say that they're the most reliable source considering that they were the original ones that introduced the 10 Commandments to the world.

Hey Troll,
Are you an expert in the study of religion? If so I have a lot to ask you. Do you think that you could e-mail me and display your certificates so I know who I am communicating with?

As silly as this answer is, so too is this question you asked. You are filled with something, but its not the truth. Shame on you for trying to sway the children of God away from Him with this tripe you write.><>

There is a Hindu story I love, about a woman who is a favorite of Krishna. She knows she is a favorite, but she still gets jealous when he consorts with other people, she wants him only for herself. He says to her that I am not only for you, I am for everyone. Basically, she has to get over herself and realize that Krisha has a larger purpose.

So, I don't believe it is the message of the religions themselves, but of the believers. This is how many believers are, they want to guard their God with jealousy and keep it just for themselves and others like them- no matter their particular brand of faith. Also, there are those who want so very much to be right, that it must mean everyone else is wrong. How very human of us!

I think the message of most religions is that we should try to overcome our human frailties and connect with something larger than ourselves.

Not hinduism or the dharmic religions.Though they appear primitive to the ignorant eye they condemn no other faith to hell or the people who follow it.They believe all faiths are the path to self relization.Thats what makes it great. They live up to the meaning of religion. That is to bring light to mankind and bond with the supreme creator. Not condemn and slaughter anybody who does not follow the same path as you.

Pretty much- but there are also other religions such as most forms of Buddhism that are more based on doing well on earth regardless of the afterlife which don't damn people at all.
