I have 2 kittens -- Goodpoo (6 mos) and Badpoo (7.5 mos). They both eat the same amount of food every day. Their diet primarily consists of Wellness wet kitten food and perhaps 25% of their diet comes from a premium dry kitten food like Wellness or Chicken Soup. Neither kibble contains corn gluten.

As far as I can remember, both Goodpoo and Badpoo passed good sized stools every day when I first had them. They were about the diameter of my thumb and they would pass 2-3 good sized pieces that were probably 3-4 inches in length.

In the last couple months I've been noticing weird things about Badpoo. A few times I've noticed blood on her stool (the vet said not to worry and she does not have worms). I've seen her pass stool that starts out firm but then ends soft. But what worries me most is that her stool lately is consistently very thin and small -- pinky size. And I'm a small person.

I am worried because my kitties' output it SO different but they have the exact same diet.

Oh a few more details: Badpoo (and Goodpoo) are very active, have very healthy appetites, drink a nice amount of water and seem generally happy.

Badpoo is not losing weight although I have noticed that Badpoo is skinny whereas Goodpoo is chubby -- and they eat the same amount!! Badpoo is the somewhat less active cat. Sigh.

I am not concerned about my vet, she is great. She said that blood on the stool every now and then is not worrysome -- a second vet said the same and everything I've read on the internet by DVMs say the same. My concern is less the blood and more with the shape/size/regularity of her stool, in comparison to my other cat.

I would advise taking Badpoo to the vet and perhaps see about giving a stool sample for them to test. It could be something in the diet that doesn't agree with her, or something different entirely. I also think blood in the stool is something to be checked out. You might want a second opinion from a different vet.

I have never heard of a vet that said not to worry when there is blood in any animals stool, unless I have an exceptionally caring vet. I have 12 cats and every one of their stools is different. There is the possibility of tape worms which come from fleas, which does cause a healthy very active cat and/or kitten to have blood in there stool every now and then. The worms do not always come out in every stool movement, but when they do they look like pieces of rice. I fight the darn things every summer, and most of the winter too. You might want to have them checked for tape worms. The vet can give them a shot and/or a pill to get rid of the worms and give you instructions on how to stop them from coming back. Other then that sweetie I do not know what to tell you.

First off, if you are questioning your vet, this is not a good thing. Try another vet. It never hurts to get a second opinion, except the cost.

Next, make sure it is Badpoo whose poo is not good. Then take a sample of it with you to the vet.

Questions. How long have you had them on this diet? Did you reciently change it or did you change something about their habits or systems?

Anyways, blood in the stool is never a good sign. Take him back to the vet or go and find a new one.

Sounds like he might have hemorrhoids. If your vet said there is nothing to worry about, then don't just keep checking on him. If the blood is bright red, I wouldn't worry.

make sure they are getting enough oil in their diets. You can add flax-seed oil to their wet food.
