JESUS REBUKED THE FIG AS AN EVIL ABOMINATION.
"Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he was hungry.
"And when he saw a fig tree by the road, he came to it, and found nothing on it, but leaves only, and said to it, Let no fruit grow on you henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
"And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon has the fig tree withered away!"
--Matthew 21:18-20
JESUS COMMANDED US NOT TO EAT OF THE CURSED FIG.
"The next day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry:
"And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if perhaps he might find any thing on it: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
"And Jesus answered and said to it, No man eat fruit of you hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it.
--Mark 11:12-14
EAT A FIG, GO TO HELL.
"He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore-figs with sleet."
--Psalm 78:47

Fig trees do not live forever.

Mainly because people twist the Bible to mean whatever they wish it to mean; whether for personal gain or because they cannot admit it when they are wrong.

I think most Christians do eat figs now, but not being one, I'm not too sure. And wow, Jesus sounds cranky when he's hungry!

I'm a Roman Catholic of Italian descent, raised during the Vatican I, "Baltimore Catechism" era. I can't answer for anything other than my own Italian family, but dried figs are/were a special treat that was ALWAYS served at Christmas and Easter Dinners. I agree with MrFoamy...in Mark 11:12-14, Jesus calls that one specific tree to whither and die. In Mark 11:13, He even notes that it wasn't the season for fig trees to bear fruit, in the first place. This was to teach his disciples that God measures a man by his faith, rather than his outward appearances. To that end, Jesus notes that the tree gave the appearance, from a distance, that it was fruitful, when up close it truly wasn't. He thereupon fells the "fruitless" tree, not with the overt act of using an axe, He fells it with His FAITH.

See what happens when a person has not the truth of the Word in them. They make up things that suit themselves. Beware of people like this one. A twist here and there and the truth is hidden from you.

Study to show yourself approved.

God made the fig tree for fruit to eat and enjoy. What does this fig tree represent that God is trying to tell us. There is a male tree and a female tree. You cannot eat the male fruit for it is only for the fertilization of the female fruit.

This tree is the Kenites, the sons of Cain. Jesus want us to learn the parable of the fig tree. Go to the Book of Jeremiah and read it for yourself. Don't let non Christians lead you into Satan's Camp.><>

Thats pretty wack, Christians can eat whatever they want. They would of thought you can eat figs because maybe that was the forbidden fruit that resulted in Adam and eve exiled from the garden of even by that was just a parable to help us understand the creating of the world.

Christians do eat figs, and they do so without going to hell for it.
Jesus cursed that one tree in particular.
The next day they observed that it had withered from the roots.
No one would eat from that tree again, because it died.
Your quote from psalms is out of context.

In Mark 11, Jesus spoke to that specific tree only. I happened to have just eaten 2 figs, and I believe my soul is untarnished by them. They are not the evil weed you make them out to be.

I eat fig newtons. Seriously though, the fig tree represents Judaism. Meaning that the Jewish faith had produced no fruits for God so He cursed it and gave His blessing to the Gentiles. No Gentile need eat the fruit of the Jewish religion but rather just have faith in Jesus.

Figs were inedible until the great English scientist, Newton, figured out how to cook them in those bland pasty little strudel roll things.
