On wednesday I am having either one or two of my wisdom teeth taken out. My top left wisdom tooth is really bothering me and painful so that needs to go now, so im probably going to have local anaesthesia. i cant have all 4 taken out next week b/c it takes weeks for my insurance to authorize it and i cant wait that long. but the oral surgeon might be able to take out a second wisdom tooth, but the bottom left one hasn't erupted. Its so small and deep in my gums so he'll probably have to make incisions in my gums. Im scared of having this done under local. Its going to take longer. I know i'll be so anxious and then having to be awake for a longer time. Idk im just worried something could go wrong, anasthesia might wear off during the extraction. I'd like to know about some of your experiences. What did it feel like having your wisdom teeth taken out while awake? how long did it take? Did you feel any pressure, or absolutely any pain at all?

Honestly, getting my wisdom teeth removed was the most painful thing I've felt in my life. It was unbearably painful for about a week. The procedure didn't hurt because I was put to sleep but the next day Oh my God did that ever hurt! I got dry sockets which is a complication that not everybody gets. Its like where the blood clot comes out and the nerves are left raw in your gums. I couldn't eat for about 2 days and all I did was lay in bed. It hurt so bad. The taste was nasty because blood and stuff gets caught in the dry sockets and I had to go back to the surgeon, get it irrigated (they mix water and mouth wash and squirt it in your dry socket) and had to do that at home about 3X a day. Finally I couldn't take it and I was throwing up from all the pain and they had to stuff it with this paper that tastes like ginger. After about a week I was fine. This is unusual though. Most people I've talked to have no problems at all. Just follow the surgeons advice because you DO NOT want dry sockets!!
I would definitely reccomend general anesthesia. You are out for the whole procedure and don't have to feel any pain during. With local anesthesia, when you are awake, you can hear the whole thing plus they have to pull at your mouth...it would be painful just to hear it. General is much better.

I had my top 2 wisdom teeth extracted it was a breeze because they already started to come in. But my bottom 2 were impacted and the oral surgeon had to make incisions and drill and take them out by sections because the roots were hooked and everything went smooth I only had a local anesthetic I felt a little pressure no pain.

I really wish I could answer this for you. I might be having the same thing happen for me since one of my wisdom teeth is actually biting into my gum. It would be a good idea to ask how long the painkillers will last. I don't know much about this, but try to find out some background information about your surgeon and see if that will help you.

I was under nitrous oxide and I had all four taken out at the same time. I felt absolutely no pain during the procedure, although I could not eat solid food until the stitches came out a week later. All four of mine were still embedded in the gum, so he had to cut them out. Oh, and I found this out the hard way: don't mix antibiotics with dairy.

had 3 of 4 removed under a local at different times. #3 came out 2 weeks ago. Took about 10 minutes and all I felt was pressure - no pain.

I had all four of mine cut out at the same time while under mild sedation. My teeth were growing in sideways instead of straight up so all of mine had to be cut out. See if there is a way they can use "laughing gas" on you. They did this for my daughter. I didn't wake up through mine and neither did she. It helps "put you to sleep" without having to go under anesthesai. The most important think to do is follow the instructions they give you following the surgery. Don't do anything too soon. Wait until the doctor gives you the go ahead with eating certain kinds of foods and stuff.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

I wouldn't know about about the local stuff- i was completely out when they took all four of my second molars out. But I haven't heard anything wrong about a local when having a few taken out at a time. Just make sure you have a good dentist doing the procedure and you should be fine. People that i've talked with- haven't felt a thing.

absolutely their is no need for worring about this
local anesthesia use dby dental surgeons stay for about 6 hours n no tooth extraction surgery will take as long ,
about the incision its no need to worry too i assure u that sometimes making an incision is much much better for the patient confort n healing ability even in some cases with totallu erupted tooth that needs extraction
but one importnat thing is that u have to listen very carefully for the post operative instruction that the surgeon will give u n u will be just fine

Mine were all done locally. But all mine were totally in my mouth. If it's just under the gum line, you should be fine with local. If it's impacted in the bone that's when they would put you under. Then it's actual surgery. I've worked in the dental field for 25 yrs. If it wears off some, just tell your dentist or are you going to an oral surgeon?

My dentist had to do a little bit of work to cut the gum around my wisdom teeth. Plus the bottoms are in dense bone, so it's tougher... but I just had a couple shots of novacaine and I didn't feel anything except for him pushing and pulling my head around... No pain, though.
