i think that cigaretts are poison. and are in no way good for you.
they add so many chemicals to them to make them addictive and they speed your death.
however i do smoke (pipe and hookah {shisha tobacco} and
Chanupa, ceramonial peace pipe of the Native Americans)
some smoking experiences (when done in ritual) can prove very peacful and enlightening.

Spirituality is a verry general and broad cattagory. It realy depends on several factors wether or not your spiritual growth will suffer because of things you do or dont do. For example if your following a religious path and the path you are on teaches you that smoking is sinful and you believe that, then it is likely to be a stumbling block to you. If on the other hand you are following a path that says smoking is ok or even encuraged then it wouldnt pose a problem and posibly be bennificial. Biologicaly its just not smart but spiritualy there are many varriables.
In any case if you are doing things that you dont feel good about you will be hamperd in your spiritual growth but there is no reason that someone who smokes can't experience spiritual growth

Can you pray while you smoke? yes, you should pray at all times.
Can you smoke while you pray? No
There is time for everything in life. I know one thing, everything in excess is bad, and sometimes even praying to much is bad, you become a fanatic and you think your better than others. Jesus was always with the sinners, and you know what:::: many times we think that sin is something good but that we cannot do it, and that is not truth. Sin separates us from God and the consequences are that we start feeling empty, sad, until we don't care anymore and sin becomes normal. That will affect your spirituality not a cigarette. I smoked cigarettes for 4 years and i am glad that i stop smoking, not because of my religion but because of my health. Sometimes we want to be so pure that we become impure.

Yes absolutely, as will any addiction. Smoking is taking in a harmful substance into your body for pleasure and you then lose control of your free will.
If you truely want to climb the spiritual path you will not smoke drink do drugs and will cut back or eliminate sex. These things are going to keep you grounded in the physical world.

Good Question. Which type of Spirituality do your practice? I practice the Christian version, and even though the Bible does not say thou shall not smoke, I think it says something about treating your body with respect. Smoking is so unhealthy for your body, so I would guess that God would not want someone to smoke (not that he would hold that against anyone though).

There is no place in the scriptures that forbids smoking. It happens to be that people associate smoking with certain bad habits. Can you literally tell someone that drinking too much, or doing drugs are bad when you can't control a habit like smoking? Just something to think about.

I personally think that if you believe and feel it's against Spirituality to smoke....then don't....God is an individual God.....he may "allow" some to smoke without feeling bad about it and then on the other hand he might NOT let others feel it's ok.......I personally smoke....it's bad for my lungs....but I feel it is not hampering my Spirituality.....I am a spiritual advisor!!!!.....lol....I am very close to God......

Depends on what your belief system is. Some religions say that being addicted to *any* substance (that can even be food!) will impede on your spiritual growth. For instance, my faith teaches that our bodies are not ours, they are given to us by God and are to be treated as temples and not defiled. We are to be disciplined and self-regulating. But that lifestyle isn't for everyone.
I also believe God gave us choices for a reason, and that no one is really in a right place to say "you can't be spiritual b/c you smoke!" If you're Christian, you believe Jesus paid the price for ALL sins, and no one else is perfect, so no one else can tell you you're not following Jesus (or whatever your religious path) properly.

I would say, yes, intentionally poisoning one's body hampers spiritual growth.

No. Smoking is good for you. How else do you expect to get lung cancer and emphysema, and die at an early age because somebody fooled you into believing that the poison they were selling was good for you?
